M.2 Wifi card

Hello everyone I am setting up my desktop with SLI but noticed that if I did that all my PCIE slots would be covered. i was wondering instead of using a PCIE wifi adapter could you take the M.2 portion of my existing wifi adapter, put it in an M.2 slot and plug the antenna in. Would this still work with my system since I dont have any more PCIE slots only open M.2 slots?

Most m.2 wifi adapters use different keys than the storage m.2 thats most board have. Id just get a usb wifi adapter.
