EK Radiator Core Module

im aware of that choice, but i want to get rid of thier supplied tube and use a transparent tube.

So currently im in at a state where im deciding on making a custom loop, but i have a compact case which is the Nzxt H500. i was wondering if the EK radiator core module can be modified, in a way that the built in tubes can be removed and make a transparent tube from the radiator to the GPU waterblock. my build has a cpu AOI therefore im not going to build a full custom loop and water cool both cpu and gpu. What i want to achieve is the radiator with custom tubes going into a single gpu with waterblock from EK.

get some compression fittings and some clear maching tube. drain the AIO, change the tubes and refill the loop use the plug at the top of the rad.

yes you can do it they are simply compression fittings. with rubber hoses and a nice braided material ontop of the rubber hose. (plus quick disconnects)

 

BUT...

 

the MLC rad units are HUGE. make sure you understand the size of the thing before you order it and find it wont fit :)

 

also i kinda did the same as you with a GPU only loop and the CPOU had a H100i in the end i just went full EK for both, the vardar fans were quiter than the corsair ones anyway and a 360 MLC was more than enough for the 1080ti/8700k combo

another question, i have the nzxt h500 not the (i) and it says it supports the 280mm front. the one from EK i selected is the 280mm does the pump and res add more length to the rad? if so u recommend the 240? anddddd one more thingg. do u still have that pc? can you send a picture of the custom loop u have for gpu.. last thing came up, im planning to get a EK 2070 waterblock what do i need to connect the gpu block to the rad?

my end goal is to have as much space from my gpu to the side pannel on the nzxt h500

Yes the EK unit has extra height for the pump and res. I reccomend contacting EK support as they will tell you exactly if it will fit or not, their support andnpresales is great.

 

as for a 2070 you would have to buy a water lock, pipe work and quicker disconnect fittings (EK sell all this) and connect it up as you would a Phoenix unit and then go through the water topping up procedure to get the block full of water. It’s all easy and documented on the manual, same as any custom loop really just with a tiny res that’s not transparent.

 

as you can see from the pic the pipes are too long to look good in the case and it spoils the aesthetics

recently i have not seen any 2070 water blocks so ive decided to get a Gigabyte 1080 G1 as my video card, not only its versatility on multiple choice of water blocks it better optimised for my kind of gaming. it will be watercooled like i mentioned with the EK Phoenix 240 or 280 and will have transparent tubes from the rad to the water block. my idea is to have a white coolant for the gpu loop thats why ive decided i want transparent tubes. now ive not decided if i want rigid or soft tubes due to the space so itll come at a later time.

you may want to rethink the phoenix if youre prepared to put in the hard work to do the pipes and blocks the "normal" way. the big benefit of the (expensive_ phoenix is the plug and play aspect, which you wont use. I think you could buy a full custom loop for less and even if its not much different in price you can certainly get something better looking. the phoenix pipes are ugly and the CPU block is also ugly. if youve got space constraints having a separate rad and pump/res could help too.

remember my goal is a compact as possible, since its 3 in 1 makes it already have a plus if i were to get a pump, res and rad differently or even hace pump,res combo. the tubes are personal. i just want them to be transparent so i can see coolant, sure i can stick with the stock tubes but they are too bulky for my liking. so i think ill switch them.

depending on how the space is restricted will affect if the Phoenix setup is better or worse for you.

 

it adds an extra inch or two to the height and about 1cm to the width or a standard radiator. 

 

for example in my Define R6 it is supposed to be able to fit a 360 rad in the top and front in the standard configuration. Unfortunately the phoenix does NOT fix in this configuration as it too big. I had to swap it to the "alternate configuration".

 

dimensions are listed on EK's site of the unit, and also the case manufacturers should list their rad support so im confident that with or without Ek's pre-sales support youll be able to choose the right thing for you. All im trying to do is give you some points to consider before you order to make sure you KNOW its what you want/need before it shows up. :)

It cools very well, you'll just need some quick release valves and everything else standard. Currently in the process of adding 2x 2080 Tis to the loop.

 

Just waiting for quick release valves to arrive.

 

Got 1 GPU in the system so I can use it and one with block applied to it

appreciate and so i am since its my first build i dont want to make flaws too. and it brings up another point that since the nzxt h500 has a bracket for the front rad and i cant seem to clarify if i can put the fans or the rad on the right side of the bracket, i dont expect you to answer since were on a different topic but if you have info pls share thanks vm
