Windows 8.1 Pro RDC doesn't work

So basically I can't get remote desktop to work and no, I don't want team viewer.

  • Modem/router in bridge mode
  • Separate router forwarding both the default port (3389) and a custom port I edited in to the system
  • Firewall exception added for both ports
  • Antivirus disabled for testings sake
  • Remote desktop enabled using default admin account

So, any ideas as to why it won't work?

RDC is... Weird.. Have you enabled it, I'm sure you have. Have you enabled it on both computers. There are a lot of possible issues. Even updating display drivers fixed issues with RDC for quite a few people. Are you connecting directly through ip or using the machine name... There are so many things that can stop it from working

I am good at computer

Can you connect over LAN with another PC so the routers are not in the mix?

If yes then we can in most cases rule out problems with the server.

(just narrowing down the possibility)

No, not even a local host will work.

that's just weird, only thing I can think of is insulting you by saying "are you sure its enabled"

if 127.0.0.1 not even works then I dont know what could cause it as this also rules out incompatible RDP/S client versions.
