The 4790K with a healthy OC will be fine, at that resolution it'll be much more about that 1080Ti which is a perfect for that resolution.

Doesn't matter, as all 4th and 5th gen processors on the mainstream platform can only use DDR3 and everything newer than that requires DDR4.

Not sure if it's worth it right off the bat. It depends on the games you'll be playing. Will you have more headroom? Sure, but at a resolution that high, the bottlenecking is much less pronounced.

If you were to go for the 8700K, any decent memory will do. It can handle DDR4-3200 and 3600 no problem.

Depending on the game you play. It is likely that if you were to give the 4790k a good OC it could keep up at that resolution. Maybe you should wait until you get that monitor and see if you’re happy with the FPS?

If you were to get the 8700k, 2666Mhz should do fine. You could go over, but it doesn’t really help much.

I have a 4790k, 24GB ram, and 3440x1440 monitor. I have my cpu overclocked to 4.8 with an aio. I only have an gtx 980TI driving my monitor. I was running off of a gtx 1060, and the gpu difference helped me greatly. Since you have a gtx 1080 Ti you should be fine. if you are worried about a cpu bottleneck, you could consider overclocking it since you have an aio as well. While ddr ram is faster, I dont think your ddr3 will be an issue.
