So I was wondering just exactly what a capture card does and can I get one for 150 or under in US dollars

Lets you plug in an external video source to the PC

Most don't actually do any encoding so you still need a decent PC for streaming gameplay.

If it's just recording camera footage it doesn't need to be too powerful.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

There are quiet a few really good capture cards on sale right now if you're in the market:

If you have an AMD chipset stick with Elgato:

HD60 Pro (PCIe) @ $126 on Amazon

HD60 S (USB) @ $161 on Newegg

If you have an Intel chipset I recommend AVerMedia:

GC510 (USB) @ $166 on Newegg

GC570 (PCIe) @ $155 on Amazon
