I would say a ryzen here. The 9600k is just a soldered 8600k and more games are getting optimised for 8c/16t gaming

You don't choose 2700x / 9600k for budget.

For budget i would suggest Ryzen 2600, best bang for the buck. 6 cores 12 threads.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Look through which system would be cheaper after the mobo and ram taken into account.

2700x definetly better overall chip.

But you might need better mobo and faster ram to get the benefits of it.

Also what will be the target ? do you have high refresh monitor or? What gpu you using for it?

edit. supakomputa has a point there !

i say it would take 2-3 more years until games fully utilized 8 cores.

Today, it would get the general gamer, their $$$ maker, 4 cores users out of the picture, on minimum requirements.

Well, a good motherboard depends on many things, like the chip you want, overclocking, rgb, chipset, company, those things. For ram I recommend 3000 mhz+ at all time with ryzen

prolly 2600, then upgrade to zen 2 later on when necessary, probably don't want a 6c/6t cpu if you had other choices.

Yes this is correct and that is why I think the motherboard for 2700x would run you for more money than other of those other CPUs that are mentioned in this thread (ie. 2600 /9600k)

It is offcourse not a blanket statement and research for parts that you are ready to spend your money on should be something that everyone does.

Too bad motherboard manufacturers have so much bs in theyer marketing page that it could be hard to navigate through them. So you need second party like trusted web site or trusted youtube channel to get any solid information these days. Gamerznexus has done pretty good video collabs(with buildzoids if I remember correctly) on motherboards lately.

That being said buying from rebutable brand you will still get experience that will work, but you might not get full benefit of the chip with lower end board. Off course the overclocking being the nro 1 up there, but just basic how motherboard will boost your chip out of the box could be very different and varying based on board.

Yeah, agree with that too. Was just listing some boards so the op could get a idea of what pricepoint mobo we were talking about

Yep totally, those recommendations are on point.

I am waiting for CES to see if there might be news about zen 2, and how viably the release date will be, otherwise I will be going with 2700x and those boards will definetly be on my list of things to look at. (This would be towards my next build)
