Screen Scale?

UnaverageVague

Never really understood the reasoning for screen scale in games... if I were to set screensale any higher than 100 usually I get shit FPS so I’m trying to figure it out is best to max screen scale and then configure graphic settings or just max everything and keep at 100 screen scale? Cause naturally I can’t have both maxed graphics and max screen scale

Screen scaling renders the game internally at the output resolution you want times the percentage. So doing 25% scaling at 4K will have the game render at 1080p then upscale it to 4K. I don't know the exact reason why games do this, some use cases I can imagine are:

  • You want borderless window but do not want the game to render at the native resolution for higher performance
  • If the scaling goes above 100%, you want an easy way of doing super-sampling AA.

Just leave it at 100% unless you fit in one of those two categories.
