9600k without BIOS update

So I just ordered an i5 9600k and an Asrock mobo. Asrock's website says I will need a Bios update to be able to run a 9th gen CPU but I don't have access to an 8th gen CPU to be able to do that.

 

Will I be able to post and update the BIOS with my i5 9600k? I could send back the 9600k and get an 8600k but Newegg says they will give me a full refund as long as it is unopened.

 

What should I do? Has anyone been able to successfully post a 9th gen CPU without a BIOS update, since its very similar to the 8th gen according to some of the posts I have seen around?

then you're betting on luck that the BIOS is new enough to support 9600k. Nope you cannot use 9600k on old BIOS no matter how similar it is to 8600k

You risking yourself big time to waste by purchased those pair and has to find a way to either:

1. Find a 8th gen CPU from someone to borrow only to update the BIOS, to do that you need to assemble them then apply the paste for the CPU cooler installation, and update BIOS, then disassemble them to be assembled again and put thermal paste again. You waste your time, energy and thermal paste.

2. Cancle the order. If you can't do that you will wait for what you purchased to arrive and send back to them then order the right component and wait for shipping once again.

I bought it this black Friday. The 8600k and 9600k were going for the same price, so I got excited and bought the 9600k without much research, thinking that the bios would be updated already, but after some research, I doubt that will be the case. I actually tried canceling the order before it was shipped but Newegg didn't let me and since this was black Friday, the customer support was a mess. I will just send it back and get an 8600k I guess.

If you live next to a Microcenter or other PC shop, they should be able to update the BIOS for you as well.
