Powering gpu with one or two cables

Hello I just bought a Rx 580 which requires 1 6pin and 1 8pin connectors. My psu is the xfx xt500 which provides 2 pci e cables and each one has 2 6+2 connectors. It's ok to plug one cable of the psu on my gpu or I need to plug 2 separate cables? ( One of the two Pcie cables is hard too reach because is tied behind my motherboard

Yeah you can use one cable, that’s what the extra 6+2 is meant for

Sure why not. Your card isn’t strong enough to saturate the cable. 

 

Wont matter cable wise. I run two 1080s off a single cable. Why run two if one can work.
