Wall-Mounted TV Audio Options

How does one setup the audio component for a wall-mounted TV?  Generally speaking, does one use a sound bar that is mounted along with it or is a surround sound configuration better suited for this sort of setup?  Thanks in advance.

I use a 2.1 system. I dont need more than that. It's loud enough, the bass is pretty good and I have the left and right channel, mine are connected via I think cinch cabel (tne system is in there already for a few years)
