Will 240hz monitor have any downsides at 60fps?

frog8fly

I am looking to buy a monitor. Originally I wanted a 144hz, however, I really like the look of the alienware monitor which is 240hz.

www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0733YCKM5/

I have an i7 8700k and gtx 1070ti. In a game such as Fortnite, I get around 150fps.

Now, I dont want to pay $500, so I am thinking of getting the non g sync version of the monitor.

Will there be any downsides to having the monitor be 240hz vs 144hz, especially considering I cant hit 240 in alot of games? (And I wont have g sync).

Thanks

If you can't hit the Hz, then don't get the Hz.

Sounds like he's in for a world of Hz.

Why spend the money on 240Hz if you can't get it? It would be a much better idea to get a 120-165Hz G-sync display, like this one (its even 1440p):   https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CwgPxr/dell-s2417dg-238-165hz-monitor-s2417dg

Lol that monitor is more expensive than the 240hz.

I dont have a need for 1440p, I would much rather hit at least 144fps than have 1440p.

Also, guys, this monitor is a really good deal. So money aside, will their be downsides to getting it if I run my game at 144 fps?

The monitor looks really cool and the future potential of 240hz is interesting.

Not really, other than the monitor costing more than a 144 Hz. Although since G-Sync only works when your framerate is lower than your monitor's refresh rate, having a monitor with a high refresh rate that you will never hit is the ideal situation to have G-Sync in.
