Extremely hot HDD on a new HP Pavilion Power

Darth Crow

Hello, fellow techheads,

my girlfriend just sent me the two attached screenshots and my eyes nearly fell out.

One shows that the drive utilization is 0-1% (sorry, that one's in Slovak, but I believe you should get the picture), the other one shows the temperature of the said drive - it's freaking 86°C!

I don't think I've ever even heard of such a temperature. Does anyone have an idea on what could cause this?

As I mentioned, it's a few months old HP Pavilion Power 15 and I know that she doesn't do anything stupid like using it in bed or something - she sent me that from her work. And she's a trained IT person, so there's that.

Even if she wasn't, though... that's a crazy number right there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It's not uncommon for applications to show you drastically inaccurate temperatures. If she turns the laptop off, pulls the drive, and it isn't burning her hand, then the program (which looks like AIDA64) is lying. Personally I've never seen accurate hard drive temperatures. Either the temp sensor or the software trying to read it are crappy.
