PC popped , is the HDD usable?

lior1111

Hello.
So theres this old pc of mine , got it about 7 years ago.
a few months ago , while my brother was playing battlefield on it , it made a small.. pop or boom sound i guess and just turned off , cant turn it back on.
So i was thinking its probably the PSU and i can probably use the other components on it?
Its just that we aleardy got a new pc but we want to use that old pc that exploded for parts , mainly the HDD.
Is it possible? or is it dangerous to use anything out of that pc?
Thank you.

Shouldnt be any danger of plugging it in and seeing if it works or not.

Should be fine to pull the hard drive, plug it into a USB adapter and testing it on another computer.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

Your psu probably broke

You can try connecting the new psu to the old to see if the mobo and the CPU still works

It is prefectly safe to use the HDD from that PC

What I would suggest is to remove the hard drive from the PC and then mount that drive in an external SATA-to-USB adapter and plug it into another computer.

Once done, you should scan the drive (for example using the Windows CHKDSK Tool). It will tell you if there are any errors with your hard drive (caused by the PC crash).

Good luck! :)

Make sure you scan the drive for any errors since they are a warning for a failing drive... and the potential data loss that accompanies it.
