Hey, I have the MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB 6GT OC Video Card and it doesn't go with my black and red theme. So I decided that I wanted to paint the white parts red. My problem is that I don't want to use spray paint. I was thinking that I could get Acrylic paint and paint it on with a brush but can't find any information on the topic. If this won't work, any suggestions?

You can use acrylic model paint on the shroud of the GPU but it won't be as smooth as spray painting. If you want something less permanent you can get vinyl wrap to cover the color of the accents.

Better not paint on the fan hub as it might offset the balance of the fan. Use a piece of red sticker instead.

What exactly is the fan hub?

Yes that will work, you'll just need to cut it to size and apply it like a sticker.

So could I use the vinyl or should I just leave the fans alone?

As said yes the vinyl will work on the shroud but don't do anything with the fans that would not be good for it if you put vinyl on them.

I'd leave the fans alone ; you can't see them in any sort of PC you should be putting that card in.

One other problem, when the GPU is on the motherboard there is a little bit of inside white showing, that is on the shroud but is close to the components. This is the best picture I could find.

It's possible to vinyl wrap that you can take off the white part to do the work on and reinstall it to the shroud.

Ok, one last question. There are a few slits that look like vents on the shroud where I want to put the wrap. Should I cover them or should I try to cut the slits into my wrap?

That's up to you, they're from what I can tell just for aesthetics.

  • 1 month later...

I used plasti dip spray on mine and used a sharpie to do the small stuff and it worked great. I also used some painters tape to cover some parts.
