SP64420 USB Key Setup - Device is write-protected

Hi, LTT forum.

I have a HP ProLiant MicroServer AMD NEO N54L and will like to update the BIOS, so that I can install Windows 10 on it and get the LAN connection to work. But I am having problems making a USB drive too update the BIOS.

I have installet SP64420.exe on my computer and formated a USB key where I wan't to install the BIOS update on. But I'm getting an error there are saying "Device media is write-protected" when I am running C:\SWSetup\SP64420\USB Key\HPQUSB.exe and selecting my USB drive.

What I have tried to do, to get past the error.

CMD Commands:
diskpart
list disk
select disk x
attributes disk clear readonly
attributes disk

Results:
Disk x is now the selected disk.
Disk attributes cleared successfully.
Current Read-only State : No
Read-only : No
Boot Disk : No
Pagefile Disk : No
Hibernation File Disk : No
Crashdump Disk : No
Clustered Disk : No

Do you have any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem! Did you find a solution? Would creating the image on a older version of windows work perhaps?

Ok I did it!

Download Rufus and format your usb as a bootable FreeDOS.

Then copy over the files from the SWSETUP\SP64420\USB Key dir to the root of the usb stick

I didn't overwrite the config.sys and autoexec.bat, but you probably could.

Boot using this usb and at the dos prompt, type flash.bat

Wait for the program to complete and when your back at the C:\ prompt remove the usb and reboot (CTRL-ALT-DELETE)

Win10 should then boot and the network adapter is working.

Know threads dead, but thank you! I spent so many hours messing with the HP thumb drive tool for the DL360 bios firmware and this just worked the first try. Thank you!!!
