Monitor Takes Multiple Attempts to turn on.

It is as the title says. I have some old and generic 2013 HP monitor that came with a pre-built computer. Is the problem likely the monitor's fault or the HDMI cable's. I do not wish to drop $200 dollars to find out it was the HDMI :)

If it takes a lot of tries to turn on, it could be the power button.

Can you just leave the monitors powered. Then just close the comp ?  That is was I do.

It still does it anyway. Also, the lights are pretty bright.
