SSD not showing up after installation?

Khoomn

So I just bought my new SSD MX300 Crucial 275 GB and it came in legit 30m ago and I plugged in my sata cable and the power supply cable, screwed it into the holder, turned on my pc, everything is fine, and now it only shows my C drive and nothing else. Can anyone tell me what to do?

You have to format it in the disk management program.

I had a similar problem once and what I had to do was go to the disk manager tool and assign the drive a letter (other than C of course)

If you are using windows 10 you can type "disk manager" into the start menu and it will come up

That could work as well. Though new drives have to be formatted before use.

Open CMD and run the following commands

diskpart

list disk

then you should see a list of all the drives in your computer. You need to identify which drive is the ssd.

Here is a screen print of what my output looks like:

image.png.8f2ec7f33dc979475555c9cf9804bb6a.png

Now type the following command to select the drive. change the drive number to whatever the ssd is. You can tell by the size. (Change the 1 to whatever number)

select disk 1

Next list the partitions on the drive

list partitions

You it might list only one, but it might list several. If it lists several then select the biggest one, it should be labeled "primary" (the other ones will be tiny system partitions). If you dont see any partitions then message me.

select partition 1

now type the following command, this will automatically mount and the drive and assign a drive letter.

assign

If you want to assign it a specific drive letter do this command

assign e

This will assign it with the letter E

This is what happens when I get to this point

As mentioned you need to format the drive. Puget Systems has a great easy to follow vid on it. This is for windows 10:

I think you have to format it before you can do that.

Ok I got it to work now, thank you all for helping.

For future reference, you can get to disk management by right clicking on "This PC" shortcut on most desktops and selecting management. Disk Management is an option on the left-hand side. It is just the graphical version of Diskpart. Two ways to do the same thing. But it is completely normal for a brand new (internal) disk to be uninitialized and unformatted. When you first installed Windows and selected the disk you wanted to use, that was all done automatically. Because it is a secondary disk, you have to manually do that the first time.
