27" 1440p to 27" 4k - Worth it?

rodsterman12

Hey Guys,

Long time since I last posted but you were all brilliant so I'd like to pick your brains again if you don't mind.

I currently have a Dell U2715H - it's a 27 inch 1440p panel - it's bloody lovely. No real complaints however, I'd love to go to 4K. I'm a photographer - It's my job. So it kinda makes sense right?

Now, I've not been fortunate enough to actually check out a 27 inch 4K panel. Is 4K worth it at this size? Will I actually see an improvement that warrants both the expense of a new monitor alongside the expensive of a 1080ti etc?

I'm crazy keen and also crazy reluctant. Please help me make a decision guys!

Much appreciated.

Are you buying a better quality panel, or just the cheapest 4k one you can find?

If you're a photographer you should be focusing on color accuracy.
Personally if I was going to 4k it'd be 30" or 32", nothing smaller.

I'd say that even if you don't 'see' the effect of a 4k monitor at first, it would still make things better. You know what I mean? It's still not as huge of an effect as 1080p to 1440p, but still worth it, especially if your work involves seeing the kind of extra detail you'd get with 4k.

Monitor I've been looking at is this one:

https://www.novatech.co.uk/products/lg-27ud88-27-inch-wled-monitor/27ud88.html

Spec wise, seems to be on a very similar plane to what I've got just - 4K. I've zero interest in spending a fortune for a total professional display.

- MarcAndrew - Totally understand where you're coming from. It's just price wise that's throwing me off. I could easily spend £1300 on a monitor and a 1080ti and if it's not really night and day - I'd be gutted.

Just went from 1200p 24 inch TN to 4k 27 inch IPS. Resolution bumps makes everything crisp but at less than 32 inch, it is really hard to see the difference between 1440p and 4k.

TN to IPS makes a huge difference though, as well as GSYNC.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just to update this thread in case it helps anyone.

I picked up the Acer Predator XB321hk - 32 inch 4k IPS with gsync.

It's incredible. 4k looks amazing and is easily noticeable even with the jump in screen size. I find it easier with a slight scale increase but apps that don't scale are still readable.

Was well worth the purchase!!
