To upgrade or not to upgrade?, That is the question.

Hi just wanted your thoughts.

In my rig I'm currently running an i5 4570k oc to 4.0gh with and msi gtx980ti lightning and 16gb of ddr3 1833.

What I was wondering is it worth upgrading to a new cpu either i7 7700k or Ryzen 7 1700x, could even wait for 8700k as I'm in no rush.

I only use the pc for gaming, surfing the web and stuff. The games I play like bf4 and pubg I get good fps bf4 120 on ultra and pubg 70-80 on ultra at 1440p. So im not too sure I really need to upgrade yet.

What's your thoughts guys?

I would wait for the new line up from Intel before making any decisions. The launch is close enough that waiting will be beneficial. The new 8th gen i5's might even be an option which should save you money, unless Intel goes bonkers on the pricing.

I'd say wait for coffeelake or whatever comes after coffeelake (Icelake maybe). You should be fine until games actually start using 6 cores.

I say you're fine because upgrading now before another intel platform comes out isn't the best idea especially if you're doing 60+ on ultra with a 980ti

Try using the PSU Tier List!

I'm gaming on the 4690K and 980, and I'm looking at upgrading to the i7-4790K, see no point in new i7's for such small gains and while I love ryzen and would go for it I don't feel like having to buy new ram,cpu and ram just yet when the 4790K is still going super strong, Hell my i7-3770 is kicking ass.

Redstone:
i7-4770 / Z97 / GTX 980 / Corsair 16GB  / H90 / 400C / Antec EDGE / Neutron GTX240 / Intel 240Gb / WD 2TB / BenQ XL24

Obsidian:

MSI GE60 2PE i7-4700HQ / 860M / 12GB / WE 1TB / m.Sata 256gb/Elagto USB HD Capture Card

Razer Deathadder Chroma / Razer Blackwidow TE Chroma / Kingston Cloud2's / Sennheiser 429 / Logitech Z333

Custom pinewood case, Corsair CX 600WRampage 3 Extreme, i7 980x (@4.2ghz) with ML240 Cooler MSI GTX 970, 24gb DDR3, 240gb OCZ Tr150 SSD + 2Tb Seagate Baracuda.

Advocate for used/older hardware. Also one of the resident petrol heads.

I don't think its a good idea to upgrade. Your CPU is powerful enough not to bottleneck a higher end GPU, specialy not with that amount of OC. nVidia is rolling out Volta late 17 or early 18. Whether it will kick ass or just intel-style doing nothing, it will worth it. Either the 10 series will drop price, or next gen will be awesome. CPU is tougher question, let's hope that now intel's 6 core will change the gaming industry to swithc to multi-threaded loads.
In conclusion, wait.
