2nd monitor

cisto1999

Hi,

i want to buy a 2nd monitor. I already have a 27" Dell 1440p monitor. Now i want a second one and considering another 1440p which i could daisychain with the first one. But it seems to me that 1440p panels are relatively expensive in comparison to 4k modells and i am not sure if i should invest in another 1440p panel in 2017 when i could get for nearly the same price (400-500 Euros) a 4K panel.

I do not game - i need it for office. But i am a little concerned to push the pixels for a 1440p and 4k panel together (is this even possible without a descrete VGA? - my 1150 motherboard has dp and hdmi output)... and the scaling of 1440p / 27" seems to be ok for me... another disadvantage with 4k: no daisychaining... on the other hand: 4k seems to be the way to go...

What do you think? is 1440p for 27" still up to date to invest in it ?

A 1440p is still a solid choice to invest in. It might be a slightly awkward experience to have two monitors with vastly different resolutions sitting next to each other. You might end up downscaling significantly, which will defeat the purpose of a 4K monitor.

I would personally suggest that you grab an identical Dell 1440p monitor, though it depends on what you are using it for. Your iGPU should be capable of driving a 4k and 1440p monitor at once.
