AMD 8000 Series Specs

L3773R5a

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure if this has already been spoken about or is old news but this is the first I've seen of it:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/8000/Pages/8000-series.aspx#2

The page shows the specs of AMD's 8000 series and this is the 8970GHz specific specs:

http://www.amd.com/us/Documents/AMD_Radeon_HD_8970_Feature_Summary.pdf

Is it just me or is the 7970GHz and 8970GHz the EXACT same? (and the 7950 and 8950?)

ps moderators feel free to move or even delete this post if it is old news

First to answer your question, no it is not old. And it's not just you, all of those cards except the 8570 and 8670 are re-brands (just because it's OEM they can name them whatever the hell they want) and the reason the 8570 and 8670 are the only new cards is so that they can Hybrid crossfire with Richland A8 and A10, and also a more balanced crossfire with Kaveri later on.

The other reason is that the 7670 (OEM) was already a rebranded 6670 and not a GCN card, so they eventually had to upgrade it. As far as non OEM HD8000 series are concerned, expect everything to be updated in the 8700 series and above, and the non OEM HD8570/HD8670 to be exactly the same, maybe with updated features such as slightly newer version of VCE but exactly same performance

quoted for truth... at least as accurate as all the rumors and "sources" there are :)
