Fan noise (Factal Design R5)

Yo, I am currently a tad irritated becouse of the noise that my chase seems to be making. Regular fan noise, but still even when not under any load it cranks up to 2.2k On FAN0 and 1,5k FAN1. I do assume these are my CPU FAN(S) I have one but dual sided. Tips for making it run more silent under heavy load, not more than factory clocked atm, not overclocking anytime soon me thinks.

Setup:

1070 MSI Armored edition

4790k CPU

Cooler Master Seidon 120V CPU cooler

Factal Design Define R5 Chase

Asus z97-P

CPU runs at around 40-70*C / 100-150*F (i think my farenheit is a bit rusty)

GPU around 29-45*C / 84-89*F

Bugs me a lot because i got this chase as it was supposed to help a lot with noise.

Thanks for any help

From 2001-2014 I had 156Kb/s Down and 0,02 Kb/s up. Now I have 35/35 Mb/s, it has truly changed my life.

I would just start increasing the fan speed, either through the BIOS or Speedfan, until the noise is barely audible. Set that as your maximum for normal loads, set something higher but tolerable for heavy loads, and work your temp curve up to the normal load with a large step up for the heavy load.

Need me to explain how I do mine?

Dont seem to be able to control the fan speed.

Also Ran the Q-Fan thingie that Asus has, but it wanted my CPU fan to do 100% all the time. feel like there is some miscommunication going on.

I set all of my fans exactly how I've explained. Doesn't matter if we're talking CPU, GPU, or case fan. I try to listen without headphones as I would normally do either by playing music at a low volume or playing a horror game with very soft sound effects so that my changes represent real-world usage rather than a nitpick.

This is for my GPU.

As you can see I've placed a marker at 63C worth 37-38% fan speed. Why 63% and 38%? Those are my usual temps for real-world usage in games. I've also set a 80C temp limit with 46% speed since 85C is my self-assigned temp limit for the PC's components.

4-pin. And i switched from DC to PWM, that helped a little. And even tho it says 100% in the BIOS im atm running at 6-800RPM. No clue why that it but its quiet.

Mby this is one of those its kinda broke but it works so be happy?

I would just use the BIOS for the case and CPU fans, then. That's how I do it. Just keep tinkering and it'll come to satisfy your need for silence and cooling.

Have you tried with AI Suite and Fan Xpert? Asus is generally very good with fan controls. Speedfan seems to be reporting weird speeds, which could be sensor error or bug in software.

sigh, let me start off by saying cases aren't suppose to block off large amount of noises like you think. What those dampening foams do is reduce either a high pitch or low pitch noise made by your fans or parts when

YOU HAVE A LOW NOISE OUTPUT TO BEGIN WITH!!!!

I do know that it wont kill the noise, I did do some reading before i bought it. But i feelt it should be mentioned as I am trying to get a more silent build.

And I do not have low noise, not as far as I know. When you can hear it across 2 rooms with the doors closed it can hardly count as quiet.

They are Asus own software, so they might be better. Another thing you can try is to update BIOS to latest if you haven't already.

BIOS is updated, and yeah I will look at software, hope that can shed some light on my issue. the cooler is 3-4 years old now, so it might be the sensor that is dead, i really dont know.

Ok so my AI Suite was not picking anything up, did a cleaning run, and downloaded it again, now it works like a charm. So thanks a bunch!

Spoke too soon, seems i still have a way to go. CPU fan cant be controlled (ish as it is registered as a chassis fan, that is prob because it req two power connectors and i have tried to switch them around but no diff effect). that leads into two Fans i cant do nothing about. But at least there is some progress! :D

Sounds like something is bugging it. Did you try with BIOS update? Or if you already have latest....

After a BIOS update, that was harder than i remembered it to be, as asus's own guides seem to be out of date. Anyhow, there is progress but not success. The fans run at a more normal phase, but not yet optimal, think there might be a wacky sensor somewhere. AI Suite 3 works when it wants, but that seems to be a natural thing, so not really worried there.

Currently using 3 fans inc CPU fan, but only CPU fan is registered as a thing i can edit, this might be because of the way they are connected, as they do not have pins in the motherboard directly. Atleast that is what I have come to belive, if that is correct, then the fans are more or less working as they should? might up my CPU cooler and add a fan or two to help cooling. Now even under heavy loads it does not get very hot on either CPU og GPU, but would love something that was more quiet. As I got this cooler to keep a AMD FX-8320 Black Edition Processor from overheating. Now the 4790k creates much less heat, but makes the same amount of noise, of which i find odd.
