First time CPU heatsink buyer needs help

SammyGoad

I finally am upgrading my dell mobo for an intel one that can take standard coolers but im confused by fan pins, mine is a 4 pin but alot of fans use 3 pins, can I still use them, and if so, which pin do I leave bare? if not, any recommendations about cheap +95w tdp LGA 1155 heatsinks, im thinking the Hyper T.

Yes, you can use 3pin fans on a 4pin connector. It's keyed, you can only put it in correctly unless you go out of your way to break something.

what's your price for the heatsink?

I have a $20 amazon gitcard so i'd likely not go over 30, but my cpu is a i5 2500 non k so i just want it not to thermal throttle.

yeah, up to 155MM, this cooler is only 125mm.

a Hyper 212 Evo is 159mm for comparison

the hyper T4 is 153mm

Cool because my local Microcenter has the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 (H 139mm) is only $20 and is 40w above my tdp(only 10 above the B quiet). Also my MSI GTX 1050ti has a really annoying fan noise, is there any lube or product to make it more quiet?

What motherboard and cooler do you currently have? There are a good number of Dell coolers that use standard 115x mounting holes.

Most cpu coolers nowadays come with fans that are 4pin pwm.
