M.2 slot in MSI Gaming 3 z97

Hey people,

Great to be here, the last time I was in such kinda forums was way back on techenclave.

Help me out with respect to SSDs plz.

I have MSI Gaming 3 z97 Mobo and planning to buy a SSDs. I've kinda hooked on to m.2 but don't know if it's compatible with my Mobo.

PS. No I'm not planning to upgrade my Mobo and also do suggest me some other SSDs if compatible(256-512GB)

That M2 slot will support both SATA mode and PCIE (gen2)

The SATA mode will disable SATA 5 and 6, just keep that in mind

Its simple, if you use the M2 slot for a M2 SSD then SATA 5 and 6 will be disabled. So just make sure nothing is attached to those ports on your motherboard.

SSD wise that depends on your budget. Also are you going to use it as a boot drive?

Yes I'm going to use it for booting, and when suggesting the SSDs do ensure if it's compatible with the Mobo mentioned on top.

Thanks

The mobo in question supports M.2 2280 ssd's (which is just the size)

Since you specified neither size/  brand / Country i'll give a few options

  • Crucial SSD MX300, 275GB, M.2 102 Euro's
  • Intel 540s Series SSD 240GB M.2 105 Euro's
  • Kingston M.2 SATA G2 SSD 240GB 108 Euro's

Any M.2 SATA drive will work so these are just a few of which you can pick.

You can get NVME drives (if you have the latest BIOS) but at this point in time there in no need for them.
