Has anyone had issues using a WD portable external HDD with a PS4 and have solutions for getting them to work?

I got my friend a portable external WD HDD to use with her ps4 and today she finally got around to connecting it to format and use it.

 

Except it keeps giving her errors when trying to format the drive and alternating with trying to repair the drive which doesn't work either.  

 

I tried having her connect the drive to her desktop but she says it won't show up.

 

 

Any idea how to fix this?

I can't say for certain but if its anything like my Wii U some drives just aren't compatible, I have one external hdd that won't work for my wii u, but my other ones do.

nope your best bet would be to google which model of external hdds are known to work.
