Zip Tying a cooler down?

Zack_Hill

I bought a Cryorig H7 cooler and I'm waiting for them to send me my AM4 bracket. Unfortunately, this process seems to be taking a very long time and I'd like to test out all of my parts before the 30 day return period for Newegg ends. Would it be okay to temporarily zip tie this cooler to my motherboard? I don't want to damage the board or cooler in any way obviously.

Thanks,

Zack

Just don't tighten the shit out of it and you should be fine. I honestly just set my cooler onto the CPU whenever I'm just testing something like that.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Linus does it in a few of his videos, if you do it right, they can hold, but I guess just be careful.

I would contact Cryorig and see if they can provide some shipment tracking so you know when your bracket will arrive; that way you can better estimate if you will be able to receive it before the 30 day return period ends.

DELETE! DELETE!

EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Silence will fall.

PSU Tier List - I keep forgetting where this is so I'm going to leave it here.

I reckon you turn the CPU case and set it on its side for that then correct?

Usually the mobo is out of the case (that's how I usually work with them) but it's the same concept, really.

If it is going to be short term - either a short test or limited running over a couple of days - then sure, but not as any sort of permanent solution.

Hello,

I am attempting to put the cooler on. Do I need the backplate that the motherboard came with pre-applied? The zip ties will not fit through the screw holes of the backplate.
