Upgrading from a non genuine windows 7

Go to solution Solved by Windows7ge,

It should, though a clean install would be recommended I wouldn't install over 7 just out of personal preference. I never trust that writing over an existing OS while booted to it will work 100% no errors and none down the line.

If you do a clean install the new CD key should guaranteed work.

Hi, im building a pc for a friend and I have downloaded a non genuine version of windows. He would like to upgrade to windows 10 though. If we purchase a cd key for windows 10 will it work? Thanks

I would reinstall ... and enter the new key. It up to you if you want to give you information to Microsoft or a doggy person.
