PSU Help

Hey

I currently have a cooler master G650M powering my i7 4790 and gtx 960 plus a few hard drives and 24gigs of ram. I am not particularly satisfied with the unit, and would like to change it out since I have generally gone for quiet components elsewhere in my build and I value silence over many other things. I can get a decent deal on a Corsair RM750X PSU, which is better quality and has their zero fan rpm when under low load thingy wingy. I am fully aware that it is waaayyy overkill for my current system in terms of wattage, but I kinda want it to make sure I dont have to buy yet another PSU if I decide to run something more demanding. I was wondering if it would be a bad idea in any way to use a high wattage power supply on relatively low demanding parts, other than the fact that efficiency probs wont be optimal and whatnot. Also, it would take more load to have the zero rpm fan mode thing ramp up, right? Making it more quiet overall?

I'm just asking cuz PSUs arent my strong side

I don't know about the other stuff but this in particular is not a problem. The PSU will only supply as much power as the parts draw. It might be able to supply 750W but if your parts only need something like 500W or whatever it is they actually need then the PSU will only give them that amount.

Well you might not make the best use of the efficiency of the unit since you won't be drawing around 55-65% with this set up, but since it has a low wattage zero load mode it might be a bit silent, so might as well go for it.

He might get slightly less efficiency out of his load, but not a big deal.
