Overclocking Failed on Working Computer

Hello,

I recently completed my first build and decided to add a second hard drive. When I went into the BIOS to make sure it was detected, I decided to also update the fan settings (the Asus has a an option to optimize the fans). However, when I went back into normal use, the fans were alternating speeds rather frequently, leading me to believe that it was trying to keep the CPU at a very specific temprature. Trying to manually change the settings back over didn't seem to help, so instead I decided to default the BIOS back to the factory settings. I had done very little in configuration when I put it together, as I had only selected the boot order for my drives. My processor (somehow) came overclocking out of the box, so I never had a reason to modify it myself. However, it seems that defaulting the BIOS also reformatted(?) the CPU settings and I don't know how it change it.

Help!
