Worth going from 2 IPS monitors to a gaming monitor?

Dubesta11

I have someone looking to buy 2 of my Dell S2415H monitors, which I was looking to sell and replace with one good monitor. My problem was that I wanted to get a monitor that had better colors than regular TN but also a higher refresh rate. Is there a good monitor for around $150 to $200? My budget is tight right now, and I would possibly get $250 for the monitors. I don't game a lot because of school but I always wanted a smooth monitor. Help!

My opinion, as somebody who avidly used their 160 Hz CRT (mixes good color and high refresh rates), is that 60 Hz is plenty, and what really hurts the experience is bad color reproduction. I would say no to a TN panel.

Even something like this? https://smile.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-24GM77-B-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00P0EOX1S?_encoding=UTF8&tag=pcpapi-20

The problem is that I am just so used to IPS that I find a hard time getting away from it.

I can almost guarantee that the change in color reproduction is going to be a major shortcoming, and I really didn't mind when I more than halved my refresh rates, but whatever floats your boat.

I guess I will wait for the 1080p/144Hz/IPS monitor. If they can do it for 1440p, why not 1080p?

I personally prefer the image quality, 60fps really is enough for any single player game and even any multyplayer  that isn't too competitive like CS:GO and LoL.

I am on the resolution before refresh rate side of the story.

i have an Asus VA32AQ 1440p ips 60hz monitor. Got it on boxing day at best buy for about 300 canadian dollars. It sucked out of the box but i turned off vividpixel and it is now amazing. Get a good 60 IPS and overclock it. I got mine to 73hz xD

Are you a gamer?

I would like to say I was, since I have an i7/1060, but it comes down to not having enough free time with both school and work.

My current panels only overclock to 66Hz, (a limitation of HDMI?), but my old ASUS monitor went to 75Hz and that was a noticable change. I would even take a IPS 75Hz monitor, but those don't seem to exist.

$200? GTX 1060?

Your best bet would be one of those legit 75Hz LG 1080p Ultrawides. And then OC them further.

I find that they are too small, my friend has one and there isn't enough vertical space. If I could get one the price and size of a 23 inch monitor, I would go for that.

He probably has a 25" model which I agree is too small.  Get a 29" one instead. They sometimes dip under $200 on sale so keep a look out.

This one looks promising, and might be better than the dual monitors since I watch a lot of widescreen movies.
