I don't know, the supermicro website says that I need Registered ECC.

It says it works with ECC registered or ECC unbuffered or non-ECC unbuffered.

From the Supermicro product page:

Memory Capacity
  • 12x 240-pin DIMM slots
  • Supports up to 192 GB** 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC Registered memory
  • Supports up to 48 GB 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC / Non ECC Unbuffered memory
  • Memory Mirroring supported

If you need higher than 48GB, you'll have to go with ECC Registered. But 48GB and below can work with just normal desktop DDR3.

I want to get some ram that's compatible with my Supermicro X8DTT-F motherboard, and I can't seem to be able to find ECC ram on eBay that is cheap.

Does anyone have suggestions for server ram that would be compatible for under 40$?

Here's the supermicro link:

Thanks!

Registered ECC just isn't cheap.

Do you need ECC? You could go for unbuffered non-ECC if you don't need the ECC functions.

Maybe I don't need it though, since ECC is not useful for the specific application I'm using if for.
