Help with 3.5mm jack

I have ear buds that have a mic. When I plug the earbuds in the 3.5mm jack it doesn't recognize the mic. I have a mic jack too. How should I fix this?

Plug it in the pink 3.5mm not the green one

You probably need a splitter cable with one end for the microphone and other end for the headphones. In the end you will have to use two sound card ports - one for the mic and another for the headphones
