High Temps on my 4790k

Hello all,

 

So, I fold 24/7 with my set up, which is a 4790k and a corsair H60, fans running 100%. Today, I checked real temp, and my first 3 cores were logged because they overheated. I'm really not sure why this is happening, I even turned my overclock off and went back to stock speeds and voltage. 

 

I continued to go an play some Battlefront, and i am getting about 70 degrees at a 45% load. These temps are a bit too uncomfortable for me, and I am not sure if my H60 just cant handle the 4790k correctly, or maybe I need to re seat the cooler and put new thermal paste. 

 

I registered a max. temp of 89 degrees which is making me worry.

Edit: I have it overclocked to 4.4 GHz, but temps still should not be this high.

Try new thermal paste first, I don't see why the cooler wouldn't be able to handle that chip at stock. I use an H90 for an 8350 and I get really low temps. Your pump could be dead or there could be a clog inside the tubing or radiator now if you fold constantly. So much heat could have caused some nasty build up.

It could just be the overclock. I noticed that under gaming load, my 4790k doesn't run at the turbo 4.4ghz speed. It runs at 3.6-4. I'm using a Hyper T4 in push/pull and get at max about 67 degrees under full load. I'd reduce the OC and see if that helps. The paste can also be a factor. Using a highly rated paste could drop temps a few degrees.

Pump is running because I have it plugged into CPU fan slot and it is registering as 4900~ RPM

I'm using arctic silver, but Ill check about the OC, but I used to have it overclocked higher and temps were never this bad.

The the cooler could just definitely need reseating or there's something else going on like I mentioned before some nasty gunk could be built up in the radiator from being ran so much. Corsair has a really good RMA/Return Policy if you have to go to that. Do you have a stock cooler to try on it?

either redo the thermal paste or check if your voltage isn't too high (would not recommend over 1.35V)

Yes, I do have a stock cooler. Right now, I'm idling at about 34 degrees, which seems fairly normal. I'm a bit confused.

Just keep an eye on it. If it starts getting to ridiculous temps again put the stock on and see if you can RMA the AIO.

Just turned on folding to see temp., and it immediately jumped to 99 degrees, which is the highest it has ever been.

That's not good. You don't need to let your CPU get that hot. Most systems would automatically shut down at that temperature.

I immediately turned off the folding.

 

This sucks. I am using high quality paste also, and I have never seen temps this bad, it seems that it is getting worse over time.

I re seated and re applied thermal paste. No change in temps. I put on my stock cooler and temps dropped an average of 30 degrees. I believe that the AIO is gunked up. I am going to RMA it.

Yes, the hydro series coolers have a 5 year warranty.
