Black screen with buzzing with total war.

watts

Hi Guys,

Totally random but for some reason and only with total war, in gameplay my screens will go black and speakers start buzzing., this can happen after 10 minutes or hours.

System is overclocked both in cpu and gpu, tested with prime, FurMark and 3DMark passed everything with no artifax and 24 hours of prime.

The computer doesn't crash in battles its usually in the AIs turn.

System

Z77 sabtertooth (latest bios)

I7 3770k oc to 4.6k

 Swiftech H220

GTX 680 (Latest drivers)

Ax 760i

asus d2x sound card

16gb corsair dominator platinum

corsair neutron x 240gb (boot)

Western digital 2tb drive (Storage)

Troubleshooting and checks so far;

Cpu and GPU are not overheating,

Took off overclock from CPU using stock settings

Took off overclock from GPU using stock settings

Flashed motherboard Bios to latest

Updated Drivers on GPU to latest

Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled

Uninstalled game and reinstalled,

deleting the games temporary/ roaming files

Tried playing game with GeForce Experience

Tried playing game at medium settings

tried turning off AA and Vsync

Checked Eventvwr no errors found of crash just logs system turned off.

Tested since thread

 using older drivers. 314.22

im just looking for further troubleshooting ideads or answers please.

my next line of process is probably taking out the sound card.

Downgrade your driver to the last stable release. Also make sure your power cables are securely in their sockets.

Downgrade your GPU drivers, 5 or so should do it.

Unfortunately this hasn't resolved the issue.

Could it be the GPU? even though it passes furmark and 3d Mark?

FurMark is pretty much useless and 3DMark isn't much better. I always recommend running a game as a stability test and if you must you can use Unigin Heaven ot Valley. And is it unstable at the stock clock?

Yes its still going black at stock clock. It seems to run everything else fine, without any issues though.

You haven't installed any modded bios'? You might want to reflash it if you have. The last thing I can think of is to try and reseat the card in the PCIe slot and maybe try the card in another computer if possible. Also make sure that all the power cable are securely placed in their sockets. If non of these things help you would probably need to RMA the card if it's still under warranty.

What really baffles me is that the crashes happen during the AIs turn and not in any other places. It migh just be that the game is poorly optimised and can't run well on newer graphics cards

Total War is brilliant and I'm glad I'm not the only fan of it on this forum.

I make sure Total War is at a stable release for my computer. For example, I used to run Rome: Total War version 1.5; however, I realised that it really wasn't as stable as version 1.3, so I decided to downgrade :P

Compatible with Windows 95
