Windows 10 (Technical Preview) AMD HDMI Underscan Fix

One of the first Issues I had getting the Widows 10 preview up and running for daily use was AMD drivers. I got them to work surprisingly, but Catalyst Control Center does not yet work for 10. I tried everything. 
As many AMD card owners know, especially linux users, AMD has it so the default option for HDMI is ~15% underscan, causing a black border until you can get CCC working. Why? Because they are retarded or something. 
Anyway I made a registry fix for you AMD card owners out there. 

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

YOU NEED TO CHANCE THIS BOLD PART FOR YOUR DEVICE BEFORE YOU RUN IT! 
run regedit, and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\
You will see a set of  numbers in brackets similar to this, {9ED3D08E-D0B1-4C16-8211-628D2DE08438}
 
Expand all of them. 
Under some, there should be folders called "0000". Some have more, like "0001", just click on "0000". 
Click on each one, look for the one with a ton of settings, like "Catalyst_Version". It is likely one with more than just ""0000"
Note that number it is under, again similar to {9ED3D08E-D0B1-4C16-8211-628D2DE08438}
Replace the number in the brackets in the file (the bold part) with the number from your system. Keep the brackets there. 
 
Save the file as .reg
Run it. 
Restart your system. 
They way I set up the hex value, it should now be set to No underscan/overscan, and full range RGB colors as well.
The resolution is 1920x1080
If you need a different resolution, you can edit it using the default windows Screen Resolution Utility
 
Have fun.

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Does this only apply to HDMI? Since I use DVI.

I don't believe DVI will have this issue. HDMI underscan/overscan is for TVs. Which is why it's retarded that it's on by default. 90% of us hook it up to a monitor more often.

Ok, thanks, I was starting to get a bit worried, I've started to write the ISO to a USB so I can install.

I make a txt file, enter the correct info and change the key, save it as .reg and try to run it. It gives an error saying it's not a registry file when I try to run the file or import from registry editor. Any ideas?

is "hide extensions for known file types" disabled? Might be a file.reg.txt...well shouldn't run at all then

make sure you are not missing any characters or anything.

No, its the correct type, it changes the icon into a reg file. Just says it isn't when I run it.

Ha, gotta love issues like that. Either way, I used your file with my keys and everything looks great. Thanks a lot for the help, I've been digging around the interwebs for a while for a fix. Some people on the AMD forums having the same issue.

Give them a link to this! I remember having to dig around when windows 8 preview came out, AMD drive issues give us all headaches.

Hey thanks. I'm glad I figured this out. I'm so happy I can use the preview as my daily driver. AMD drivers are....annoying.

I have a problem installing the AMD drivers for HD 5670. When I attempt it, the computer has a BSOD

Window 10 automatically installed Catalyst 14.8 for me and i can open CCC just fine.

really? Hmm 2 pcs didn't do that for me. And CCC would not work at all when I did it manually.

I had the same problem to install CCC , i solved it with the  ccc.reg file I found in a previous installation of CCC on Windows seven 64,

you'll find it in:  Program Files(X86)/ATI Technologies/ATI.ACE/MOM-InstallProxy  . After copying in the Window Technical Preview registry , the CCC installation

worked fine for me , with the latest drivers for my radeon 7800 HD .....

if you want to try windows 10, why not make a Hyper-V VM like i did, i assigned 4 GB ram and 64 GB storage, its too easy not to do, i got it up and running in less than 10 mins

 

edit: however, installing windows takes long....

I used windows 10 as my daily driver until I replaced my OS dive on my desktop.

Of course I did. Maybe I wanted to try windows 10?

My desktop I had this on was used only for gaming until recently, which it now has 8.1. I do work on my laptop. 

Why did you grave dig this thread only to comment on the fact I didn't use a VM when all this was about was a helpful snippet to solve an issue with a driver that existed for a short amount of time?

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch
