Phenom II 965 Overclocking help

I am attempting to get a minor Overclock on my 965 BE, I don't want to change voltages, everything i read says i should be able to get to 3.8Ghz without changing the voltage, i don't want to jump straight to 3.8, so currently i'm at 3.6Ghz, how long should i run Prime95 on 3.6Ghz before i go to 3.8Ghz? or should i do 3.7Ghz first? I'm a bit of an overclocking noob, so anything helps!

Prime it for 10 minutes then if it is stable keep moving on until you reach your target which is 3.8GHz. Once there do a full 24h prime to see if it is really fully stable.

Alright Thanks! Do you think it is worth adding voltage to get to 4.0Ghz?

If you got the cooling then i suppose so.
With my current config i am at 3.825Ghz with no voltage changes, my temps under prime95 for 15 hours have steadied at 49C, this is exactly what i got when testing under stock, is that normal?

That is not that common but more common with Phenom II's that others, If you would like i believe you could get you clock up to about 4.1 without voltage changes!

What cooler are you using BTW.

Just keep it under 62C. You'll lock up and/or BSOD if you go beyond that. AMD says keep your voltage below 1.55v, though I did go up to 1.7v when I was murdering my 955. Still working 24/7 :P

I think you could easily go further if your max is 49C.

i have a thermaltake Water2.0 performer. i think i'm gonna stick with 3.8 for now, in the future i may go farther but for now it's great!

sometime in the future i will surely go farther but for now i'm gonna stick with 3.8, personally i wouldn't ever go above 1.5 because i'd rather not risk destroying my chip...

I would say keep going untill it gets to hot, to high voltages or you can't get it stable

I have this exact processor and mine used to go up to 70c overclocked to 4ghz with a stock cooler but now ive upgraded to an after market cooler and i have it to about 55c on load and ive never had a lock up or bsod lol and my voltages change from 1 to 1.5 on loads, is this safe or am i pushing my luck?

I would stop at 4.0 mine gets to about 58-59 with that cooler. There is not way you can get to 4.0 without some extra voltage it will just die and you will have to go into the mobo again. Idk if you even need to do prime 95 that long, because it doesn't seem healthy so I just played a game and if it crashed I would up the voltage. lol
