Adding an SSD to a ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Has anyone ever tried to replace the WWAN card with an ssd on a ThinkPad X1 Yoga (3rd gen)?
I recently ran into some storage issues and thought about using the WWAN Slot to add a m.2 sata ssd, since I know that it works on older models.
Anyone knows if that is still the case for newer ThinkPads ?
