Getting back into PC gaming - my UM3-Gjallarhorn

x-eagleeye-x

Hi everyone. This past month, I decided to get back into one of my former passions, PC gaming and all the awesomeness it brings. I left because of Adulting 101, but now that I'm at a comfortable position professionally, I finally have more time to allocate for gaming. The last gaming rig I built was during the Intel Sandy Bridge era, where I had a GTX 780 - eons ago!

Without further ado, this is my UM3-Gjallarhorn!

Looks pretty nice. I agree fully with your to-do list :D. How is the air flow for the front fans in the case? They kinda look starved.

Airflow is actually pretty good. I wasn't able to take a picture of the case's right side, where there's a gap for air to come in. Thankfully, CPU temps have not yet gone beyond 58C at max load , and my GPU fan only kicks in if the GPU goes beyond 60C.

That's good to hear and those temps sound pretty good. What keyboard are you planing on going to? Kinda looks like you currently have a Razer one. I kinda hated the Razer one I had at one point lol.

Yeah I really dislike this keyboard. I thought the idea of having more keys would be beneficial when I was playing MMOs, but I feel like it was a wasted investment. I'm not overly picky with keyboards though. Currently eyeing the Logitech G512 Carbon since I already have a gaming mouse from the same company. One less extra app to install since I can just manage all of it through GHub.

However, also looking at cheaper options since my only real requirement is that it's supposed to be mechanical, and has RGB lighting lol.

This might be really off-topic but how do people get such good photos of their PCs? When I try it it always ends up looking like a crappy Facebook Marketplace ad

Haha I guess it's all in the angle. But more importantly, natural light. I refuse to put mine in a cave.

  • 1 month later...

Did some minor changes.

- Repositioned GPU to the first slot

- Moved my M22 Kraken to the front of the case (a good decision which brought down average temps a good 5-10 degrees celsius depending on load)

- Some rewiring

Last thing I'm going to do is get a new table. Currently looking at the Ikea Malm desk in white for contrast. I'm still unsure if I want everything to be black.
