Upgrading from a 27 inch

Gannam

I've been using the same panel for at least 8 ish years now, some crappy 27 inch dell with a very flimsy stand.

My main question is what kind of monitor can i run comfortably with my system.

Graphics card - Zotac 1080 slightly overclocked

CPU - 2700x ryzen chip, again slightly overclocked

idk what else would be important for monitor sells, if any questions about that ill gladly provide the info.

Games that i normally run, are quite a few AAA games as they come out for PC. Quite a bit of factorio and stuff like that.

And as Star citizen comes out more and more i play that quite frequently, and will more over time.

The monitor that has sparked the most interest from seeing it at a best buy. But i have no clue if i could run most things at that pixel count to begin with, most google searches bringing up people just trying to sell me something.

(Alienware 1900R) 3440x1440 120 hz

If i could do some slight upgrade in parts to bring me over a threshold, i can do that as well, my goal is to have all of it done by next year.

I have a similar display on a 1080, though don't expect to run anywhere near 120 fps on medium/high settings.

I'd recommend an upgrade to a 2080S or 2070S

How bad does a game like shadow of the tomb raider run for you?

Just above 60, maybe 70-75 in some areas.

Your setup is only good for 50 to 60fps on AAA at 3440 X 1440.

I bought a GTX 1080 at launch to run my Samsung 60hz 3440 X 1440 monitor. In 2016 and 17 it did keep all the AAA games I bought above 60fps(not average). By 2018 it started to struggle so I replaced it with a GTX 1080 ti.

The Alienware would be a good match for you because it has G-sync and it is good if your computer is not capable of doing the monitors refresh rate. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does not have HDR.

you think a 2080 super ftw hybrid would be a worthwhile upgrade?

or what around that price range.

Also any other monitors that are better for the price?

Yes.

If the 2080 super is anything like the 2080 ti definitely get the hybrid.

The Alienware is an old monitor. It came out in 2017. The monitors that are better cost more.

The things I don't like are:

It is an 8 bit panel.

It is an overclocked 100hz monitor

Too many dead pixel reports.

What I do like is:

G-sync

Panel is made by LG.

The 3440 X 1440 120hz monitor I would buy is the LG 34GK950G-W but only if it is on sale. Basicly a Black Friday pick.

The Freesync version is cheaper and 144hz. It is about a $1100 on sale.

I ended up buying an LG 38" 3840 X 1600 monitor to replace the Samsung.

I mainly play eye candy games that are fine at 60hz and benefit from higher resolutions.

It is also a perfect match for a RTX 2080 ti.
