Summer Client: X99 Upgrade

Friend of mine has been using an i7 5960X for long enough, the poor motherboard is defective and lost memory channels and busted a PCIe slot, so Ryzen to the rescue! While the drop from 8 cores to 6 is a slight bummer, the rig is a 144fps gaming rig with a side emphasis on compiling code, so the huge cache and boost to single threaded helps a lot. The real aid was the fresh windows install, the old one was a few years old and pretty clogged up.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad
