Minecraft Server Specs

I want to build a Minecraft server for my friends and I. There would be at most 12 people on at a time, and we want to use some moderately big mods. What are some specs I could get by with cause I want this to be a cheap as possible?

Minecraft wants single thread performance most, then ask for a couple of cores. For now the best choice is the 9600k if you dont want to break the bank, but preferably wait for Ryzen 3rd gen and see how prices shift.

My only problem with the 9600k is how expensive it is. It would be almost half the cost of the pc.
