Hi, we have always had trouble connecting any home devices that only uses 2.4ghz wifi to our network. Particularly our nanoleafs and roborock S8 vaccuum. It takes like 100 tries before we can get it to connect and even then it's sometimes a buggy experience. We are using the default Xfinity router which has been fine and realiable for everything else in our apartment but I don't know how to make something just try to connect to the 2.4 ghz network. Today our roborock lost connection and I can't get it back online. I tried splitting our 2.4 and 5ghz signals to separate wifis and it won't connect to the 2.4. seems like it wants to do it through my phone which will only accept the 5 ghz network. Even though I would consider myself very knowledgeable about computers my knowledge of all things Internet is very limited. Is there something special I need to do or is this just a limitations of the Xfinity router? The home devices are in the same room as the router.

Summary "Managed Wifi" has been a SIM and eSIM feature for a few years now on iPhones and iPads, but no cell carrier was as "customer friendly" as Comcast Xfinity, who has started auto-enabling and auto-re-enabling their wifi networks when you turn off "auto join." This becomes a problem if your neighbor's wifi is just close enough to get 1 bar, so your phone drops off 4G/5G and your internet speed basically dies. Quotes My thoughts Comcast Xfinity will keep doing this until enough of their customers know this is going on, and rake them over the coals. This was originally meant to be used in very exceptional cases like at a major sporting event where the cell network collapses because of the density of cell phones. Sources https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35447486, see more details in this comment https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=35448537 It's designed to be able to be turned off, Comcast Xfinity has hacked around this though: https://9to5mac.com/2023/04/05/turn-off-iphone-wifi-auto-join-public-networks/

I am moving and I need a cable modem (Xfinity coax compatible) and a router or a combination unit. 2300 ft^2 house and currently planning for 600Mbps download. Looking to spend less than $400 total. Thanks for the help.

So when I signed up for Xfinity service( ot because I wanted to but because it's the only 1gb bandwidth in my area) was advised against buying my own compatible modem. The reasons stated by reps were: 1. xfinity's protocol often changes around the end of the year, so if I bought my own modem I wouldn't be getting full use of the bandwidth I'm paying for. The rep told me that if I was concerned about bandwidth, I would need to buy their advertise compatible modems that are up to date once a year which would be more expensive than the $15 rental fee. 2. Security Firmware updates I have to do myself. 3. I wouldn't be able to take advantage of xfinity xfi or the xfi advance security. The thing is xfinity's 2021 modems do not allow any modifications of mode, security mode, channel selection from auto to manual, channel number, and channel bandwidth. I used to have control over these features from my old place with an older modem. With these features locked out it makes it hard to properly set up my smart home. So I am debating if I should just buy my own modem instead of renting Xfinity's modem. But I don’t know if what Xfinity is telling me is true about being locked out of full bandwidth speeds if I buy my own modem/router.

Hello total newbie with the whole world of internet. I am wanting to cut the $14 rental fee with xfinity (especially after paying them that for the last 4 years....yeah I know.... it hurts me too). I bought a netgear r8000 from a church sale a month ago for $10 and I thought that all my problems were solved! until I felt really stupid and tried plugging in the cable from the wall into the back of this thing (again total newbie). I then jumped onto the internet where I become enlightened with the understanding that I need a modem, but that only got me so far. I then jumped on to an LTT forum where I found out about the xfinity tool (https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/#results). Now I have learned enough to potentially make a decision but my understanding can only get me so far. I want to know if I bought a Motorola MB8611 will it work with my netgear r8000. Does this combo make sense and if not what modem should I buy? I am not wanting to break the bank something around $100 price tag is nice. I am currently running 100mb wifi soon to be higher but not higher than 1gb.

So I posted on here a few days ago about a problem I had with my new PC showing I was connected to the internet but not being able to load any web pages or download anything. I tried everything to find the source of the problem by trying both ethernet ports, replacing the ethernet cables, checking for any hardware problems, etc. I was so frustrated that I couldnt figure it out and so I took it to best buy to get it looked at. They connect the power and the ethernet there and when it turned on it was fully functional. I was able to go on YouTube, download windows updates and drivers, and do basically everything I would expect it to. Now that my PC is back home it's still not able to do any of that. All the other devices in the house connect fine and when I use the same connection on my old pc that is next to my new one it gets internet fine like it always has. I now know its a problem with my home internet but what can I do to fix this?

I want to start of by saying I have tried a lot of stuff, and I am lost and in desperate need of help. Xfinity's Xfi app (which soon will be the only way to config their shitty router) does not display devices that use ethernet. It only displays devices that use WiFi. I tried releasing IPs and getting new ones, I have tried disabling ipv6 (which people say is the issues) it did nothing. The devices show up in the offline list meaning devices connected to ethernet not only not show up, but they also only get detected for a few seconds after being plugged in by ethernet and then they go offline. Any idea what the issue is? Any fixes? as a new router/modem is not an option.

So I've been getting into a small torrenting hobby, wont say what I'm just saying ive been torrenting on an old 2010 hp all in one my grandmother gave me and now that is my jellyfin server and it works great... until Comcast started throttling my speeds at a time that seems much more than coincidental. We pay for 900mbps internet, on a normal day we get 300-500, yesterday i got 100, today i have 200, thats not the problem, usually my torrents are blazing fast, not today. They are a solid 7kibps according to qbittorrent and thats average. So today I called comcast and the conversation was an utter waste of time, so i first call them then they restart my router and say i cant talk to an agent until they do so. So that takes 10 minutes then i call back, the woman on the phone says "im sending a signal to the router" then i do a speed test each time she did it about 5-10 times, nothing. Then she thinks its the modem, we got the modem 6 months ago with our speed bump and i tell her that yet she is convinced and wont listen to me. She says she wants to send a tech to my house and that costs 70 bucks if there is no problem or if the problem is somehow my fault, she also thinks its the wiring too. Then she says the other option is to get it replaced at an xfinity store which for me is 45 min away. I still cant torrent and im not getting close to what i pay for and i have no idea what to do as they wont fix their shit.

So a month ago, In Texas, is when this all started. Through out the day my internet is perfectly fine, but at 8pm exactly these are my speeds in the picture provided. I can't wrap my head around this situation and i'm just curious if anyone else has ever dealt with this problem? I pay for 1GB Down and usually get 40ish upload, but when it comes around 8pm my speeds are 10 down and 0.07 up! Would Xfinity be throttling my speeds like this? You would think "Oh, it's because everyone is inside during quarantine." But every day at the exact same time? Come on now... I have the the latest xfinity modem (XB7) and tried 3 other modems, switching out coax cables, new splitter, modem resets, and ip flushes to no avail =( They will also not send a Technician to help me solve this, so therefore i am here looking for other smart people =) Let me know if you are dealing with this at all from Xfinity or if you have any suggestions on what it could possibly be beside Xfinity throttling my internet.

Hello everybody! I want to change my ip address, but I am having a little bit of a difficult time doing this. For my internet setup, I have xfinity internet, and xfinity router, as well as for my computer I use a usb wifi adapter. I have tried the obvious restarting my router, but that didn't work. Thank you for helping!

Just moved into a new house about a month ago that has Xfinity Internet, and it's kinda acting weird. Randomly throughout the day it will just disconnect for anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. Usually the wifi signal itself is in good shape, but there just won't be an Internet connection. I called support, and they switched me to a new channel on my modem, but that doesn't really seem to help much. The only thing I have found that works is unplugging the modem and resetting it, but even then that doesn't always work 100% of the time, and it's getting irritating doing that 5+ times a day. I currently am using the default modem that Xfinity gives to you, so idk if that's an issue, but I will be picking up my old dual band wifi router out of storage in the next couple of weeks. It's also worth mentioning that the area I am in is known to have mediocre internet, being that I now kinda live in the middle of a desert, and 95% of the buildings (including my house) are nearly 100 years old and made of Adobe, which is notorious for blocking any kind of wifi/cellphone/radio signal. As a side note, I plan on upgrading my computer soon, and I am debating whether to buy a motherboard with built in wifi or just buying a separate PCIe mounted wifi adapter, being that I can't really use an Ethernet cable. Is one better than the other? They will end up costing about the same.

I've had a few issues with my WiFi lately that've been driving me crazy, to the point of resetting my PC with no luck. When I connect to the wifi, I can load web pages fine, stream video, download things etc. all with no issue. But the internet access icon in my taskbar shows zero bars and a red x. In addition, I have crazy rubberbanding issues in pretty much any multiplayer game. In the same games at the same time, I have a very normal ping, around 40-50 ms and none of the other computers/consoles in the house have this issue. I replaced the modem, reseated my TP-Link N900 card, reinstalled drivers, and now I reset my PC with no luck. Any ideas? I'm also using comcast Xfinity so I understand there might not be a good fix

I currently have the xfinity modem/router combo and I wanted to have better connection through the walls in my house and be able to game over wifi better (without the occasional ping spike). I know wifi isn't good for gaming, but it's my only option. So what do you think of this router? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PVDVYIS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Thanks!

So I have tried everything and I dont get it... I have an Xfinity 150/15mbps internet connection and when connected anywhere on the wired LAN I get 250/20mbps. But on the wireless I am getting 5/11mbps. I have changed routers from the EA7500 with 3 TEW818drus set as APs to an edgerouter lite with 2 drus and 1 EA7500 as APs. I have tried changing the wireless channels using the wifi analyzer android app, as well as leaving it set to auto. Even when there is only 1 AP with 1 client connected its still slow. I am stuck, what else should I try. Please help!

Hey everyone, I seem to have run into an issue with my network but only with my computer. My pc is plugged directly into my Xfinity Arris modem using a Cat 6 ethernet cable. I have my Xbox One and TV also plugged into the modem but I have not noticed any issues with them network wise. First my PC specs: intel core i7 2700k OC 4.4 Corsair H100i Cooler Asus Sabertooth z77 Corsair (4x4GB)16 GB RAM 1600mhz? XFX Radeon 295x2 Mushkin Chronos 120 GB SSD WD 3 TB green HD EVGA G2 1000w PSU Windows 10 version: (after update) Version: 1903 Build: 18936.1000 A few weeks ago my network on my PC seemed to be bogged down even at start up. webpages wouldn't load, sign in verifications would time out. Browsing the steam store was impossible I get every different error page that exists. Usually if there is an issue with the network its due to comcasts shitty modem. I went to them and replaced it which didn't help. I am still not ruling it out though because it took me an hour to get it to cooperate with me and it was "new". Like I said before I have no issues with my xbox, PS4, or my smart tv, all are plugged in with ethernet cables while my ps4 is on wifi. I have a few devices on wifi but I have no issues with it at all. Now I tried using all my different ethernet cables with my PC same issues. I decided to run a speedtest downloaded the speedtest.net app on the windows store. I found what seems to be the problem using this my download speed is 118mbps but my upload speed is an atrocious 0.02mbps. Running the speedtest on my xbox I get the same download speed but upload is between 4 and 5mbps still atrocious but that's normal for comcast. I found a wifi usb lying around and tried to use that and it does work slightly better with upload speed I get around 2 mbps but the download speed is only 50mbps and the modem is right next to it. I tried reinstalling my network drivers, updating windows, I went to my moms house and tested it there same issues, windows troubleshooting says nothing, intels update tool says the ethernet port is working and theres no issues, device manager has no cautions, ran Malwarebytes for viruses and windows defender, used CCleaner to clean the registry and everything else. Seems I have done everything besides reinstall a clean windows or get a new motherboard which both of those I would like to avoid at the moment. So I am seeking advice for this frustrating issue. Networking is not my thing and I hate diagnosing these problems. Thanks everyone

ok so i have a rather unique situation, the last few months my wife and i have just been buying an xfinity wifi pass for our internet on our home pc, because well xfinity screwed us over by not installing our service then still billed us so until i pay money i dont owe them i can no longer get actual xfinity service. But my best friend lives right next door(apartment building) and my pc is a foot away from the wall his wireless router is next to, so I have just been paying the $55 a month for 20Mbps internet on my pc. And for the most part it meets every requirement i have for the moment so i dont mind doing it that way. BUT as of 2 weeks ago my wireless adapter for whatever reason keeps roaming to the other xfinity hotspots, one of which is broken & will not assign an IP address, the other of which crawls at 2Mbps which is definitely not worth $55. I turned my roaming aggressiveness down on my driver to 1, even tried making it connect only to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands separately to see if i can keep it from doing it but it just wont stop roaming to other connections with the same name 'xfinitywifi'. Does anyone know of a way or some software i can download where i can specify which xfinitywifi hotspot i connect to and keep it from roaming to other ones that are farther away for no reason? any help would be greatly appreciated because Xfinity has already told me they cant do anything about it. I'm ready to rip my hair out because now ive paid $55 this month for internet that basically is non-functional 99% of the time. Again thanks for even reading this even if you cant help, i do appreciate it. :)

I have xfinity fiber coming into my home and we have their provided modem router combo box. The fiber line plugs right into the back of the modem. Do I have to use their modem or could I just get a fiber to ethernet converter?

My friends and I are going to be rooming with each other in an apartment that supports Verizon or Xfinity intenet plans. One of us does online gaming, two of us watches 4k video, and we all watch lower resolution streaming such as Netflix or youtube. At most we would have 9 devices connected to the internet but the odds those being used at the same time is low. I was wondering how much mbps we should get and if anyone has a recommendation over Verizon or Xfinity?

Hello LTT Forums! My family changed service providers from T-Mobile to Xfinity Mobile, but when I tried to use my S9+ (purchased from Amazon as "factory unlocked" with Amazon as the seller), my IMEI comes up as incompatible. I was told it had to do with 3G or something by the rep, but their forums said that they do not accept any models with "U1" at the end. Is there anyone here who is knowledgeable in the field that can help me understand what is the truth? From what I understand, my S9+ is 4G LTE capable and is no different physically than any other S9+ sold by Xfinity or Verizon. Also, if I take my activated SIM from my new iPhone 7 and put it into my Galaxy S9+, will it work fine or will there be any issues? I was told by one rep that both phones would brick, and another told me that the quality on my S9+ would be lower than standard. I know this is the ultimate first world problem, but I saved up for the S9+ and I am really attatched to it. I appreciate any help and can offer any additional information as needed. Thank you.

Hello hello! So I recently bought 2 modems. Arris Surboard SB8200 and the Netgear CM1000. I went through the activation process both with the automated system with the CM1000, and after that bricked, I did the phone activation with the Arris SB8200. The issue I'm having, is that the internet ONLY works on the device used to activate the modem with xfinity. I called in, they resent the activation signal and this time I tried it on my other computer, and then the internet only worked on that computer and nothing else. Game consoles, wifi-router, other computer, nothing. It will absolutely only work with the ONE device used to activate the xfinity service through the modem. It does the same thing on both modems. So of course I thought the issue is with xfinity, called in and spoke with 2 reps. Neither could figure out what the issue was. I have everything hardwired through a nighthawk switch (I've also tried my basic netgear switch as well) I've also tried connecting to each device without either switch, same situation. I've tried multiple ethernet cables, though it's obvious this isn't the issue as the internet works perfectly fine, just on that one device used to activate it, so even if i take the already working internet and connect the modems ethernet to a different computer, it will not work. it see's the modem but never identifies the network. "Unidentified network-No Internet". I wanted to know if anyone else has been having this issue?

I love with 4 people including myself: my girlfriend, her sister, her sisters friend, and me. About a year ago her sister and her sisters friend refused to pay wifi. They game a lot on PC and use their mobile devices most of the day as they rarely work. Since they refused to pay and still wanted to game and browse, we changed the password and disconnected them, as we were the only 2 paying. However, we noticed that they still watch Netflix and Hulu, play overwatch, and use their phones for YouTube. If I try to connect to local wifi signal, every one of them has a password. It is also worth mentioning that no one around us would willingly let them use their internet. We have Xfinity and are paying for the internet as well as the rental router they insisted we use. I monitor the Xfinity app constantly and have every device labeled. But I see no new devices or usage. Is there some way to see how they are connected or if they are connected to ours? They do not have any type of hot spot either, as far as I know, and doubt overwatch could be run off of it. Thank you for your help!
