hey guys! I've been on this crazy adventure getting HoloIso 5.0 running on my project Pc Steve. Steve has built-in wifi and blutooth (blutooth 4.0). connecting connecting controllers like Ps4, wiimote, xbox via blutooth is pretty easy, but what if i could get more than one to connect at a time? is that possible? would i need to upgrade the wifi card? is there a USB solution. Can linux (mostly archlinux) handle that? if anyone could shore some resources that would awesome! please remember im very much a novice when it comes to linux as a whole, so i may need step by step instructions. thanks!

okay, im almost there i can almost taste it! im making this new thread bcuz holoiso 5.0 is by far the best version so far. my updates are fixed. pacman is working. and my gpu seems to be performing better now (kinda). now i know there are other alternatives to holoiso/ steamos, thats fine im just trying to get the most out of my perfered OS. i am a complete novice when it comes to linux, archlinux is not for the faint of heart. if anybody could give me some guidance to some resources or tools so i can really turn up the gas on this machine that would be great! what i want to do: 1. i need some kind of utility that allows me to adjust my fan curves. my machine is an ASUS g20 aj, upgraded to a i7 4790 paired with 16gbs of ddr3 ram and a rx 5500xt. the case design isnt the best but my gpu temps out of control. i have installed "coreclt" but i cant seem to get the results i want, mostly in game mode. 2. once i can figure out temps and fan curves, i would like to see what i could do about overclocking/ undervolting. i would love to tune this machine to an inch of its life again both in desktop and game mode. 3. i do have a 2tb ssd as the os drive but i cant help but feel like more storage may be needed. the case can fit a 3.5 inch drive and it would be cool to put games on that. the only issue is mounting on boot. i have fiddle with some usb drives trying what i could fine on google but not great results. now pls remember i may need exact instructions like what to type in the command line. so if there is any archlinux resources i could use with detailed instructions that would be great! thaks guys!

hey guys! i'm excited to finally install holoiso on a pc with a AMD gpu! but there are some weird behaviors. now before i get any further, yes i have googled my issues. here are my findings: https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/441 https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/800 i recently upgraded my brothers old prebuilt ASUS G20 to a i7 4790 paired with an RX 5500xt (i may upgrade that down the road). the installation of HoloISO went smoothly, and game mode works as expected. but! when i do a system update and restart it will say i have another update. over and over again cycling through several of the same updates. also if i were to go into desktop mode and try to update whatever HoloISO flatpacks in the package manager, they say fail and stay on the "updates" tab. havent had much luck finding anything about that either. https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/801 but the most jarring issue is when returning from desktop mode to game mode. the screen goes black and the system becomes unresponsive. even with a hard reboot. i have had to test this issue multiple times and had to reinstall HoloISO each time. i think it may be tied to updates issue? idk. i downloaded some games from steam, they work as expected. but i would love to turn this machine into a emulation powerhouse! but if going into desktop mode bricks my OS thats going to be impossible. so if anyone has any experience with any of these issues/ can help me out i would very much appreciate it. thanks!

Budget (including currency): 100.000AR$ (Roughly 160-170USD) Country: Argentina Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Quick/chill games that I want to play on a couch instead of desktop Other details: I have an AMD A10-7860K processor, an Asrock FM2A68M-DG3+ motherboard, 12 GB of DDR3 RAM and a GTX 1050. Sadly, the motherboard was damaged a lot time ago and the complete system turned into e-waste since I used it as an opportunity to jump into Ryzen and DDR4 memory. It's still capable of running games but I have to 'underclock' (Yes, I'm Michael from The Office butchering words) the CPU so the system doesn't crash. Since it's e-waste I wanted to do a little experiment and build my own Steam Machine and share it with you guys. I'll try to share this adventure soon! The first thing in my mind is Steam official SteamOS (HoloISO I think isn't compatible with what I have) and make the entire system fit into a console-like format (A full tower could be annoying using the TV) Share your own builds or similar experiments! I leave here a photo of the motherboard screaming for help. Don't look at it too much!

I have quite a lot of old computers, approximately 3. Two of them are laptops and one is a desktop. They all have windows 10. The first one is acer 1410... and is about 10yo, just installed windows on it. Then theres the second one, an HP pavilion 7g. I think its 10 years old as well. OK lets get to the point. What I am saying is when I tried to download steam os 3 (holoiso) on all of them... the laptops didnt even want to boot it and went directly to windows while desktop was already GREAT BUUT then after I wrote all of that code into command prompt and restarted the computer, I will also put youtube link to it: Time is about 10:40. I tried selecting all of the options under steam os advanced but it still was blank. I tried waiting the whole night (13h) and still nothing showed up?! What am I supposed to do? And also could you help me with laptops? IF anybody helps me I will be SOOO thankful cause I really need an entertainment system in the living room. THANK YOU!

So I have an 8BITDO Pro2, which is detected as X360 controller via Bluetooth, and I have OG x360 wireless controllers, which I can connect via dongle. Both work fine in Linux in my steam decks desktop mode as long as I don't have steam itself running. For some reason that results in the right stick moving the mouse cursor and the buttons not registering. I cannot use those controllers in gaming mode at all due to the same problem. They also register as multiple controllers at once, controller 2 and 3. 2 does nothing and 3 just is half and half, half as mouse and half as gaming device... My dualsense and DualShock work flawlessly right out of the box, even with gyro and the trackpad. I thought that especially the x360 controllers would just work, but they don't. Any ideas?

I've been in the process of remodeling my home and therefore, don't have an office to game in. I've been streaming games from my desktop to my potato laptop no problem via windows 10 but i need to setup a monitor any time i turn it off or my WiFi craps out. If i install steam OS on a second drive will it just turn on and immediately enable steam in-home streaming? If so, can i install steam OS on a flash drive and run it off that?

Hey guys! I wanted to try out Steam OS but then I read that it recommends atleast a Hard Drive with 250 GB free space...so I was wondering if I can install it on my 128 GB SSD and use the second drive a 1 TB HDD as a library for games and stuff if not than why are 250 GB recommended for an OS?

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post up this kind of issue. If it isn't then I'm sorry. I purchased a steam machine (Alienware Steam Machine) and due to most of my games requiring Windows like the Division, League of Legends and Battlefield 4 I wanted to know if it's a good idea of converting a Steam Machine to a Windows PC. I haven't done something like this before and never tampered with the Linux Terminal or Open Source Software of Linux. If you need to know my specs it's an Alienware R1 Steam Machine Intel i7 4385T 8GB RAM SDDR3 1TB HDD 7200RPM Nvidia GeForce 2GB GDDR5 (Similar to 860M) If anyone has done this or has some insight on changing OS types then please let me know what to do or the warnings, effects and dangers to changing OS types.

Hi, I thought somepne could shed some light on this issue that I'm having and hopefully provide some answers in assistance. I have an Alienware Steam Machine R1 it cost me 375 at Gamestop vs paying 900 for the Alpha. I wanted to have Windows 10 instead of SteamOS because I knew that most of my games dont support Linux. I disabled my Secure Boot in the BIOS and booted Windows 10 from a usb. The instal path I choose was Windows 10 Pro naturally and it was successful however it said that I needed to activate Windows 10. Now all my other PCs used the same bootable usb and had their Windows 10 Pro activated without issues. Did I do something wrong during the installation? Or was it my upgrade?

After the pain of getting the windows installation on my Syber vapor to work, another problem shows up I can't even pick a location for the windows to install. The system says my drivers dont the have the media it needs to do it even though I used the window's media installer thinking it would work but nope pictures down below to show what im talking about (dont mind the green particles those go away after I refresh the screen) PS. also when I clicked show details it said that Windows needed a drive thats formatted NTFS i think it was called and none of those were. When I tried to manually select the USB drive I put it the computer its self it said no installation media was on it so welp. Also I did noticed that the system drive had the option format on it highlighted and I clicked it and nothing happened still the same message.

How do I get grub to recognize my internal M.2 SSD as a boot device? I have an Acer Aspire E15 E5 575 Notebook, not the best, but it gets the job done. I have three operating systems at this time; Windows 10, Ubuntu 18.04, and SteamOS. I have Windows and Ubuntu dual booted on a 1TB HDD, and SteamOS on an internal SSD. When I boot up my computer, I get a grub menu asking if I want to do one of four options: continue to Ubuntu, Advanced options for Ubuntu, Windows Boot Manager, and System Setup, but my SSD does not show up, neither does any other type of boot device. I can press F12 when my notebook boots to get to my systems boot menu; and SteamOS shows up there. But I'd like to know if there is another way to get my SSD to show in the grub menu.

This may sound dumb, but I feel with the leaked Valve VR HMD, and the common knowledge of Half-Life VR; It seems like Valve would want to find a way to get as many people into their VR ecosystem as possible... This in my mind would require them to have a hardware spec to run their next gen VR titles, similar to how the RX 480 was the baseline for Gen 1 VR like the HTC Vive and Rift. SO, therefore, am I the only one that could see them selling something like a MSI Vortex or Zotac Mini gaming PC, shipped with Steam OS, to corral the new people into Steam, without being able to go to GOG or the Epic Games Store, due to not having full Windows or Linux...

Is it possible to run SteamOS on a PS3? And how to run SteamOS on a PS3?

I wanted to start this discussion to bring to attention this game I really like, and how other games right now don't generally live up to this in its various respects. I understand that the game was a console port and often has issues with its PC ports, but I wanted to bring to attention this game for the features it has. Features are listed in the spoiler: Yes, APB: Reloaded exists if I wanted complex customisation; I played it, but its gameplay was mediocre (way too much like a traditional third-person shooter, lacked cross-dressing and other customisation features in Saints Row 2, motorcycles and I can't really tolerate the microtransactions system; plus, the game seemed to crash a lot on the laptop I ran it), which I fully came to realise when I discovered that the game was made by Ruffian Games (who also developed Crackdown 2, another game of mixed reception. I played Crackdown 1 and although the game was really basic in gameplay, it was fun until an update which meant I can't resurrect gangs after killing their bosses). I understand that during the creation of Saints Row: The Third, Volition Inc.'s publishers then (THQ) were nearing bankruptcy, but I am annoyed that they decided to make exactly the same game in terms of looks and feel after THQ declared bankruptcy. I'm also annoyed with the game industry that they produce games without such features in mind; I feel like they're not taking advantage of the processing power available to them as well as making the game replayable. Saints Row 2's features, highly complex customisation and ability to interact with the world makes the game highly replayable and better worth my money than a game like Call of Duty or Battlefield. Sadly, this game is recognised for its poor PC port for Windows and SteamOS due to poor developer effort; I don't want to see this game fade into oblivion and I would like future game developers to be inspired by this game. All I ask is for future game developers to take inspiration from this game, and I would like people here to give their thoughts.

So I was giving some thought to building my next computer. The one I have was supposed to be the last one for quite a few years. Sadly, my research was incomplete. While I wanted to have multiple OSes in a multi-boot configuration, this particular motherboard is a bit Linux hostile. Downright unusable if Windows is also present. Blame their strange implementation of a Legacy/UEFI hybrid system. Then came the 7-Gamers pc followed by the 8 (or 10) gamers pc. Also, Linus's personal machine at home with the fiber thunderbolt connectors. This got my gears turning. If these insane rigs can support 7+ full-on gaming sessions, building a smaller version for my own needs should be much easier. Here are the features and requirements I'm looking for. Any and all helpful input is appreciated. Capability: This new machine will run my entire house. That's a lot less impressive than it sounds. It will need gigabit ethernet ports via expansion card(s) or onboard. Two minimum, three or four is better. For the multiple gamers portion, it only needs one moderately powerful video card. My gaming needs are not heavy. An NVidia Shield box will be used to sometimes mirror my primary desktop, or to allow a second gamer to play something different. All other virtual machines hosted within the box will be lo-res systems accessed by remote desktop or headless servers. The hosted virtual machines will be a mix of OSes with several Linux flavors and a few versions of Windows. Hardware: What I'm looking for in hardware might be considered weird. Overpowered in some areas and under in others. I'll of course take suggestions. But these are the broad, general specs that I think will carry me for many years. I'm thinking that this will have to be an Intel build for maximum support for multi-core, multi-thread, and Linux in general. But I'd gladly go AMD instead if the support and price are there. They've served me well, and I'm not a devout fanboy for either side. CPU: As Linus mentioned in the "$150 8Core Gaming PC," the build was successful primarily because better support for spreading the workload had been released just before those CPUs and MoBos reached end of life. As long as I can get those same kind of results, I want 16 threads of 2 GHz or higher in any configuration. A 16-core without hyperthread, an 8-core with HT, a pair of 8-cores without, a pair of 4-cores with. Doesn't matter. Don't care. Just looking for a good price to give me a good number of virtual cores. And while Linus comes down on AMD's 6- and 8-core chips when compared to Intel, I'd accept them all the same. But I just have the feeling that getting 16 cores (real or virtual) and flawless support for Linux and load balancing from them might be out of the question. MOBO: Unlike the $150 machine, I'm going to need a little expansion. A server board might have all the ethernet I need on board. But I expect that I'll need two PCI-E slots in addition to the one that gets my primary video card. It will also need to accept 64GB of ram minimum. Being able to build it with 128 and upgrade it further in the future would be better. In the end, a machine like this could provide me with a "daily driver" that changes OS at the drop of a hat. It would allow me to shift my gaming display between rooms, or run a second gaming vm for a friend. All this while also running vms of my shared file server, plex server, hosted game server, and opnsense gateway. And all of these can have snapshots, incremental backups, and replacement versions available at a moment's notice. Again, any thoughts on the best way to build this rig are appreciated, as are specific hardware suggestions. Looking for stability more that absolute computing power. Longevity over flash. But I'm totally going to nickname it Cerebro. Thanks.
