Hi! I'm building a new computer for gaming and content creation and I'm looking for a monitor. Currently I use a mid 2012 retina Mac Book Pro with a 15.4-inch 2880 x 1800 monitor. How much of a difference will I notice? Specifically display quality but generally the monitor overall (response time, etc.). The Asus PG279Q ROG Swift 27.0" 165Hz Monitor: Resolution: 2560 x 1440 Screen size: 27" Widescreen: Yes Aspect ratio: 16:9 Viewing angle: 178° H x 178° V Brightness: 350 cd/m² Response time: 4 ms Refresh rate: 165Hz IPS: Yes LED: Yes G-SYNC: Yes Thanks so much!

What do you guys think of this laptop? Innovative? Good Value? I'm all ears, I'm still in the Laptop market and this one really caught my eye, everything about the laptop looks really good except for the GPU. I'm not holding that against it since the form factor is so small and the 965m is about 150% better than the dGPU in my Late 2013 MBPr (http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GeForce-GT-750M-vs-Nvidia-GTX-965M/m7928vsm24481). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/devices/surface-book

Can anyone reccomend me some really solid EXTREMELY color accurate/bright monitors (similar to the display of Apple's retina screens) with a high refresh rate for under $500-$600? is it possible? I do a lot of graphics work but i'm also a hardcore gamer so i'd love a sharp, preferably 1440p+ monitor that can do this.

Allright, here comes another topic about cheap eGPU's! What it boils down to is I'm looking for a cheap eGPU enclosure for my 15" rMBP from 2015. You're probably thinking: why is this chap asking for a cheap enclosure, when he can afford a MBP anyway? Well, the MBP was bought from an entirely different budget than my gaming stuff, in this case my budget for school related items and just my regular budget. Aight, that's out of the way. I've already got two candidate GPU's, a Gigabyte GTX560TI and an MSI RX470 8G and quite a collection of 350W ATX PSU's, so the budget for the enclosure won't cover those things. I've got about a 100 bucks for an enclosure, but so far I didn't seem to have any luck finding one. Is there really nothing out there? I don't mind pulling a Linus uhh doing some DIY stuff. I simply don't want to buy an enclosure that's equally expensive or even more expensive than my actual GPU's...

I'm looking to get a new monitor. I'd like 144hz for smoother gaming. But I'd also like a higher pixel density to get ultra crisp text. Going from my phone and macbook at work to my home PC screen I feel like I can see each individual pixel. Is that where 1440p comes in? Does it mean crispier text? I play a lot of games, but none of them really competitively at all. Mostly single player games and casual MMO. So I don't care about the best response times and all that. I'd rather have the image look super sharp. Does G-Sync matter? I don't really experience screen tearing or any of that right now so do I even need it? I'm currently running a GTX 970, but would consider getting a second one and running SLI if I needed more power to run games comfortably at 1440. Size isn't too important 24" would be the smallest I'd want to go. Budget is around $500 but it's flexible. Any help or insight is super appreciated, I'm on information overload right now!

Hey, I've purchased my MacBook Pro Retina 13 at John Lewis 2 years ago roughly (I got a 2 year warranty with it). I've noticed the SSD is going slow and the battery needs replacing. It'll probs cost about over £300 to get it fixed knowing Apple so I thought I'd buy the SSD and install it myself and then get Apple to do the battery. Are there any other ways of getting the repair done cheaper? Thanks.

The New Macbook - Image from Ars Technica The Verge Ars Technica Interesting... It does seem to have a decent keyboard, an excellent display, and performance somewhere around the 2011-2012 Macbook Airs. That's the good news. The bad news is the single port is just annoying to live with. However, is it just me, or do these reviews sound like the ones for the Apple Watch? A great first generation product, but is a bit slow and expensive. The Macbook is going to be the one to change notebook for the next decade. It's lack of ports will be resolved, just like it was resolved on the Macbook Air, and the relatively slow performance will improve, as it did with the Macbook Air. Just like the Apple Watch, it's going to push the industry forward, despite its current compromises. Laptops as a whole will be better off because of the new Macbook. Apple Refreshes MBP Retina 15" Apple has refreshed the 15" model of the retina Macbook Pro line: CPU remains the same (No Broadwell quad core) GPU has been updated to the new AMD R9 M370X. Force Touchpad New PCIE SSD (2.5x Faster) Battery capacity increased to 99.5WHr up from 95Whr resulting in an hour more battery life from 8 to 9 (Official estimate). Only the new high end model has the AMD graphics chip, the lower end model only include Iris Pro.

So we know all know that most 1080p monitors usually sit between 21"-24" with some 27" models, and most 1440p monitors sit at around 27" with a few at 32". Logically, 4K monitors sit at around 32" or larger, right? Wrong. Almost all the 4k monitors available to the average consumer sit at about 28" with only 8 monitors on NewEgg listed larger. Why are monitor makers pushing pixel density rather than increasing dimensions and keeping pixel densities similar to that of lower resolutions? Is a 32" or larger monitor too large to be practical? Would you like to see larger form-factor 4k monitors? Am I stupid for asking all these questions? Let me know below.

So I was watching the 5k monitor ces video and wondered if there exists a point at which we no longer need anti aliasing tech. That would alleviate considerable chunks of the gpu to do other things like drive massive displays. I figure anything that meets "retina" standards might do it but "how retina" would it need to be. I get closer to the screen to view small objects so those would still need AA. How small does that pixel need to be so that my eye wouldn't be able to see the pixels regardless of how close I got. And does that really get rid of the need for AA?

I picked up my new Macbook Pro Retina (13 inch) today, but when I fired up TF2 to see how it would run, I noticed that the highest resolution available was 1280x800. I thought it was just a lil bug, until I started hearthstone and got the same options for resolution. What's the deal? Can I use the glorious 1440p screen in it's entirety while gaming?

This worked so well the last few times I did it, so why not go for it again? Its nice to keep all the discussion in one place and I plan on keeping this post updated the entire time so we can keep up a good discussion. I'll include some of the rumoured stuff, this event went from "Apple Watch" to a little bit of everything, with rumours of updated Airs, Retinas, even the iPad has been brought into discussion as being given a more 'productivity orientated" SKU. Even word floating around a 4K equipped Apple TV, which might be more likely given how much Apple has neglected the unit in the past few years. Lets see whats what, but for now lets get some typical LTT shenanigans going. Not the terrible kind of shenanigans, but the fun kind. Yes, I'm making this thread early because it took a while to format it. Oh well. Enjoy. Hello guys! I'm working on a battery mod for my rMBP 13'3. So far this will be my purchase list: Poweradd Pilot Pro 32000mAh http://www.ipoweradd.com/poweradd-pilot-pro-32000mah-battery-charger-for-ipad-air-ipod_p1273.html Magsafe 2 cord http://www.banggood.com/45W-60W-85W-AC-Power-Adapter-Repair-Cord-Cable-For-Macbook-Magsafe-2-p-914322.html But before purchasing the items i want to hear a few things. The "original" apple charger is 16.5v but the batterypack is only able to give DC 9V,12V,16V,19V,20V/4.5A Would it be okay to just apply 16v, when the original DC adapter supply's the PC with 16.5v? If so - I've got a 32000mAh/118.4Wh batterypack for about 100$.

hey guys, so i'm not sure if i should buy the new 5k imac. i'm getting a huge discount until the first of january, from 2600€ i ll get it for 1500€. the 3099€ version with the i7 and the 295m graphic card would be 1900€. the point is that it doesn't have enough horsepower for what i need, i'd like to render fhd videos and i'm also into gaming on ultra => for that i 'll have to use my "old " PC. so the only point for getting the imac is to edit photos, but then i also need external storage and so on -.- a lil pain in the ass. what do u think does the screen justify the costs? (keep in mind the os only shows max 3200x2400 or so) thx

Will the Asus PB287Q 4K display be able to display 4K @ 60Hz on my Late 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina Display (The Nvidia one)? Been digging for an answer for too long, pretty confused. Thanks

Okay, I'm about to start college and I need a new laptop. I have a gaming desktop already, so I am not worried about how good the gaming is on the this computer (but it couldn't hurt). I have been looking about the MacBook Pro Retina and the Razer Blade 14' as the two power house options, and the MBPR is only slightly more with the specs I picked. The MacBook Air (2013) looks like it could handle most of the stuff I need to to and then there is the acer s7-392-9890 which is about the same price, and power but does seem as nicely built... not to say it is bad, but, for the money i wanna something that looks the part as well. I have read several review on all of these but cant decide, if anyone can give me some help or suggest something else, it would be a lot of help. Thank You

Hey guys, Recently I've been been looking at the differences in displays/monitors. I've heard various differences between the different types but have never really seen supporting evidence from site to site on the various pros and cons. What I'm really wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction as to where to figure out more about the display technology (retina, oled, led, lcd, tn?)? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

A forum poster with a reputable history on WeiPhone.com claims to have information about an upcoming MacBook/Air refresh. According to this source, the new model will sport a 12-inch design close to the current 11.6-inch model, but will feature significant internal differences. The updated MacBook will reportedly not have a fan, will feature a Retina display, and redesigned trackpad. This new trackpad will ditch the mechanical button that has been in the multi-touch trackpads since they first debuted. Instead, the new Air will use only tap gestures for clicking but may feature some tactile feedback to simulate a click. 9to5Mac previously covered a KGI report stating that a 12-inch Retina MacBook Air was in the works. According to that report, the computer will launch in Q2 or Q3 of this year, and could potentially cost less than current models. 12-inch MacBook with new design + Retina Display: Smaller MacBook with entirely new design Launching in either Q2 or Q3 of 2014 12-inch screen, but as portable as current 11-inch MacBook Air and productive as 13-inch MacBook Air Higher-resolution display (Retina) Will “redefine laptop computing” once again just like the current MacBook Air design Thinner/lighter than MacBook Air, new clamshell structure Will run on Intel chip, not Apple-based A8 processor Potentially lower-cost than current Apple notebooks Finally, the WeiPhone.com user also notes that updated 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros will be available in or around September. These updates will reportedly be mostly spec bumps rather than significant upgrades. The poster also mentioned that the iWatch isn’t imminent but would likely come late in the year. We consider this report fairly likely. Previously, the same source provided photos of the Retina MacBook Pro prior to its official announcement. My thoughts: With the upcoming iPhone 6 (allegedly with bigger screen and health sensors), iWatch, New Apple TV, and new Retina MacBook Air with complete redesign apple wasn't kidding when they said they had great plans for 2014. This might be the year when apple shakes up the tech industry which has been a while now.... When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone 4, he also introduced us to Apple’s definition of a Retina display. “There’s a magic number right around 300 pixels per inch, that when you hold something around 10 or 12 inches away from your eyes, is the limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels… text looks like you’ve seen it in a fine printed book.” That Retina branding has become an industry misconception according to LG, and the company made a point of it during its G3 smartphone unveiling earlier today. LG’s comments aren’t just relevant when comparing current iPhone models, but also when thinking about what’s planned for iPhone 6. It didn’t mention Apple by name, but it was clear LG was referring to the iPhone and Apple’s 300ppi Retina definition: LG also compared an HD display at 269ppi to Full HD at 403ppi and its Quad HD display from the new G3 at 538ppi: “If it were true that the human eye could only discern differences in display quality up to a maximum off 300 ppi, then you wouldn't be able to notice these differences in clarity and sharpness between the images shown.” Yeah showing the above resolutions spread across in 60" or 70" is the way they support their argument. Idiots! The current iPhone lineup remains at the 326ppi that was introduced with the iPhone 4 despite later moving to a 4-inch iPhone 5 and introducing scaling modes that improved the overall quality on displays of later models. We recently reported that Apple is currently working on a 3x pixel tripling mode that would likely bring a 1704 x 960 resolution display to the next-generation iPhone. That would give the rumored 4.7-inch model a pixel density of 416 ppi and the 5.5-inch model 356ppi assuming they both use the 1704 x 960 resolution. I personally think that LG just wants to get some attention by bringing in some high specs on paper. Personally I don't see any pixelation on my iPhone when compared to HTC One (unless you go really close). Just slapping in a QHD screen on a 5.5" display IMO is a waste. I'd rather have a lower res panel with better battery life. And I also do think that the iPhone 6's resolution is smart. The resolution would be high enough to view content without any pixelation but not too high that it starts affecting the battery and the GPU load required. Also not to mention the compatibility of existing apps
