Occasionally, I pull out my old PS3 and Xbox 360 and enjoy messing around in the services to see which of them still work. To my surprise, most of the streaming services (YouTube, Netflix, etc.) not only still work but are still being updated to the latest version of the app! So I wanted to know, are there still anybody using these to stream media? I doubt there are (as display resolution is a problem), but I wanted to see how long people used these for.

Hi, I bought a used PS3 Controller CECHZ2H-A1. Obviously thia is the Hong Kong Version. I took it apart and board, shell, motors etc. seem to be all legit. But wut I can't get in my head is why this unit has a seemingly legid label with NO serial number. Not faded. Just nothing. Can someone explain?

How this starts is I was replacing the 10+ year thermal paste off of the PS3. This was my first time disassembling and reassembling of the console and I put 90% of it back together to make sure everything was working when I realized the disc drive wasn't working properly. Like it incerted and ejected games but not read them. So I tried to re attach the ribbon cable several times which I didn't realize the latch for the ribbon had been broken until it broke off completely. The one on the disc drive I was easily able to reconnect and disconnect it just not on the main board. My question then if I get a replacement how would I go about keeping the ribbon cable there? Oddly enough not having the disk drive prevents me from accessing homebrew apps like multi man to atleast backup my files.

So my ps3 hard drive is old and getting slow. So I wanted to upgrade the HDD but I do not have a dualshock or sixaxis controller to be able to able to install the updat file onto. (makes you push START and SELECT). is there anyway way to be able to do this with out a ps3 controller. Im using a Dualshock4 and have one of the move controllers with the X and O buttons to be able to navigate menus and stuff. Could i just get a USB to sata adapter and use the backup utility to clone the drive? Will using a game disk or CD with the updat file on it automatically play? will a knock off ps3 controller work? or any other ideas? thank you

Hi, Does anyone have an idea of any chemicals to dissolve or soften the silicone gasket used on the PS3 Cell and the Thermal adhesive used on the RSX? I figured since thermal adhesives are sometimes used on PC components maybe someone may know a better method than using a razor blade alone. I had come across Ifixit's adhesive remove, but it appears to be acetone. Is acetone safe on a BGA or motherboard or CPU/GPU die? https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/iFixit-Adhesive-Remover/IF145-400?o=4

I just received a PS3 Slim(CECH 2501A) from my cousin in America, here in the Philippines. It was working just fine with the few games cd's that came with it. I decided to connect it to the internet via cable to see if it still works, it did and I got a notification to update to firmware 4.87 from 4.80. It was stuck in loop on the update constantly giving me that error. I checked online, Error "8002F1F9" could be cause by the HDD or the Bluetooth/wifi card. HDD is fine after I checked for any bad sectors, but I don't much about the Bluetooth/wifi card, both controllers won't work on bluetooth and I don't know if the wifi works. Solutions I've tried is to disassemble the unit and remove the cmos battery for a minute, to just stop the update loop. Didn't work. I've also tried to format the HDD on my PC, plug it back in, with a flash drive with a update.pup ver 4.87, still stuck on the update loop error "8002F1F9". I don't know what else to do

Recently me and my friends have been playing old ps3 games like nfs carbon and few other games of that sort and obtaining disks for old games of a console which is more than 3 years old has become difficult so I tried getting the games by jailbreaking the ps3 with the ps3 hen firmware...and when i tried installing the firmware it has failed me and the error 8002f1f9 is displayed on the screen. Lot of people on different Forums and on youtube have faced the same problem and the problem seems to be the cmos battery and the wifi/bluetooth module. So i replaced the cmos battery and yet the error remains as is.and replacing the bluetooth module is out of question since it is impossible to find parts of a 10 year old console and even when found are super expenisve...So i am writing to find if there is a any solution to this problem apart from these two because i have read online that u can flash some other kind of firmware which seems impossible considering the fact that the screen is stuck on the god damn error....besides they havent mentioned the name of the firmware or where to find it... Thanking you in advance....

It has this HEN and multiMAN things to play games from a USB. I have some questions What is this HEN and multiMAN ? Should I enable HEN to run multiMAN ? If yes Why ? Can I run PS2 ISO using multiMAN ? thank you.

This is my finished "Diablo PS3 Mod" and the name is mostly based on the color scheme and RGB glow effects. I took a lot of pictures along the way so I would like to document it all in individual sections from start to completion rather than chronologically. I will try to write and release one per weekend if time permits so please be patient. This is my first attempt at modding and other than some residential electrical experience, I had to learn and research everything myself. This is in no way a tutorial or guide and if you attempt to replicate any part, do so safely and at your own risk. Hopefully if you are willing to go on a similar journey, you won't have to start from almost nothing like I did. This build took 1-2 years of mostly research and part sourcing, and about $1000 worth of parts not including tools.

I recently read somewhere that someone was interested in a broken PS3, it had the yellow light of death, but would only take some of them based on their timing of when the yellow light pops up. They wanted to know how long the green light is displayed when you try to power on before the yellow/red light comes on. What's the difference between the yellow/red light coming on within a second and the yellow/red coming in longer then this?

Is there any way to replace the ps3 hdd with an m.2 ssd?

So I am currently at my local used games store and I have enough money for either a GameCube, a wii with almost every accessory, a ps2, a ps3, or an Xbox 360. I need help choosing because I’m indecisive as all hell. Just something to note though, I do not have an Xbox account, and I do not want to pay for Xbox live, however the games on it might be good enough to warrant a purchase of Xbox live. thanks for helping me choose

I just de-lidded the CPU and GPU on my CECHE01 fat PS3 yesterday morning. The CPU was far more difficult, as expected. When i finished removed the IHS off the CPU, I discovered I scratched a corner of the die face with the metal paint knife I used to cut the adhesive. When I saw the scratch on the corner, my heart sunk immediately. Nevertheless, I applied new thermal pads and thermal paste everywhere and reassembled the console. I plugged the console in and it booted up no problem. I ran a Blu-ray movie in it for just a few minutes to see if anything would be amiss, nothing unusual did. My concern and/or question here, is will this PS3 become a ticking timebomb in any way by having the corner of the CPU scratched? The scratch was significant enough to remove a bit of the silver layer on the top of the die, but it wasn't a deep gash by any means. Unfortunately, I did not think to take any photos before I reassembled everything. I have yet to boot up a game after this de-lidding process, and I have not yet used the console heavily in any capacity. I would ultimately like to know if the thermal paste will somehow corrode that one scratched corner and ultimately brick the console. Or is there any risk of some kind of electrical/ fire hazard with the CPU in its current state? Any advice on what I have explained would be much appreciated. I am not familiar enough with damage tolerances of CPU and GPU dies. I plan on booting the console up again tonight and seeing if there has been any change in the last 24 hours after the de-lid service.

Do you think it will work?Hello everyone, I have a PlayStation 3 slim console CECH 2004B model whose disc drive stopped working and stopped reading discs from time to time, I opened the device, cleaned the disc drive from the inside, including the Blu-ray Lens, but the problem does not go away, the drive reads discs and then stops reading them, there is a spinning noise but nothing appears on the screen, you have to insert the disc a few times for it to work I searched the net for replacement disk drives and this is what I found, https://www.amazon.com/Module-Replacement-CECH-2001A-KEM-450AAA-KES-450A/dp/B07Z17RQZT/ref=d_pb_allspark_dp_sims_pao_desktop_session_based_sccl_2_2/143-7778711-9210749?pd_rd_w=hYMbW&content-id=amzn1.sym.6b5008ac-c24a-4aea-a3ea-015a531184f5&pf_rd_p=6b5008ac-c24a-4aea-a3ea-015a531184f5&pf_rd_r=H151D5K7PY46HQTP7JQK&pd_rd_wg=eYfWO&pd_rd_r=ecd33ddf-53e6-47b6-b535-784a0ce6474a&pd_rd_i=B07Z17RQZT&psc=1#customerReviews https://www.amazon.com/Module-Replacement-CECH-2001A-KEM-450AAA-KES-450A/dp/B07Z17RQZT/ref=d_pb_allspark_dp_sims_pao_desktop_session_based_sccl_2_2/143-7778711-9210749?pd_rd_w=hYMbW&content-id=amzn1.sym.6b5008ac-c24a-4aea-a3ea-015a531184f5&pf_rd_p=6b5008ac-c24a-4aea-a3ea-015a531184f5&pf_rd_r=H151D5K7PY46HQTP7JQK&pd_rd_wg=eYfWO&pd_rd_r=ecd33ddf-53e6-47b6-b535-784a0ce6474a&pd_rd_i=B07Z17RQZT&psc=1#customerReviews Do you think it will work? thanks !

As the title says , This is NOT a brand new HDD since ps3 Hdd's are no where to be found where i live i could've bought a brand new one but its for my little brother and he was impatient. The hard as i said was not new so while he was installing a game he noticed it took longer than usual before the upgrade (Since the ps3 we had was a 12gb) and we upgraded to 500 , i checked the hard drive using Hard Disk Sentinel and to my surprise it has 90% health and 16 weak sectors. and now he is paranoid (as well as i am) over the whole thing since we can't really return it anymore. Should we be concerned ? We haven't noticed any performance losses or crashes or weird noises or anything to be fair. IT is also a Toshiba 500 GB 2.5" inch hard drive.

Hello good tech enthusiast's. I have come to a cross road regarding my Sony Ps3 80gb phat Backwards compatible. It has NOT been opened up in it's lifetime. It has from previous owners probably been air dusted from outside. And so have i hence it runs. It runs fine and has not yet started the YLOD. My first ever console died to ylod and i got my hands on this one a year ago. (2022) I guess its inevitable with YLoD. Can i do anything to keep it alive for preservation? The questions. 1.A Should i be happy it works for now and not touch it? 1.B Or should open it up, break the warrantyseal to swap paste and clean it deeply? (With all the risks of opening a console, and likely not getting the heatsink tight enough like stock sony. ) 2.A What are the most common pitfalls trying to do the pasteswap? Its my first forum post in my whole life so i hope it doesnt break any rules? Thanks for reading. Rocky.
