So i have been looking through the internet all day about this problem that has seemingly existed for over 2 years RTX cards seem to love to idle at 100-120w even though they are supposed to idle around 30w. (i only found out i have this problem as my electricity bill was higher than normal) The nvidia devs seem incompetent at fixing this problem Has anyone actually even found a solution yet? I've probably tried 30 different things out of the 100 posts ive read through and none of them work. What I have noticed so far that no one else has even mentioned yet: When i first boot up my pc it idles at 30w, the second i hit the start button it jumps up to 100w and (sometimes) stays there. if it does get stuck, going into task manager and closing out "windows (file) explorer" always allows my gpu to go back down to normal 30w idle and behaves as intended for a(n unknown) time. I am on windows 11 with the latest updates as of today. This 100w idle problem is not driver dependent. i have tried with 4 different drivers, all having the same problem. Other than file explorer itself i have not been able to find any solution that will affect the gpu idle state. What I have found form my limited testing is: Number of monitors does not matter at all refresh rate does not matter at all resolution does not matter at all Overlock does not matter at all undervolt does not matter at all any settings in msi after burner does not matter at all bios pcie gen settings does not matter at all a complete stock bios or modified bios does not matter at all power management mode does not matter at all restarting does not matter at all asbolutely no options in nvidia control panel matter at all I dont have Nvidia voice or whatever that app is called All forum posts regarding this issue lead to dead ends and fizzle out with extremely limited info about anything and everything really. (was really funny to see nvidia tech support not even respond to multiple tickets about this after admitting they have no clue how to effectively troubleshoot with billions of dollars of time and money) What ever is going on seems to be directly related to something with windows as the only way to consistently unstick my gpu (other than a reboot or temp disable gpu in device manager) is to quit file explorer and relaunch it. Should i just dump my stupid 3080 and go with amd? anyone wanna trade for a 6900xt? anyone wanna buy my 3080? (its got a 240mm AIO) Thank you all in advanced.

Quite simply, could disabling cores and providing adequate cooling allow for a ryzen CPU to be overclocked to such a degree it's capabilities become more competitive with intel's on single threaded experiences? To me, with my lack of extensive cpu knowledge, this sounds almost possible to perform, either as a consumer or for amd to do with a few tweaks and creating another line of CPUs to ship with fewer cores and higher clocks, or would the set number of instructions, architecture, and cache present prevent this from possibly happening? I would love to hear your opinions on this matter or technical feedback as to why this would or would not be possible.

I'm just wondering how much you guys think 120gb over will cost on a 40gb plan, not that I totally did this or anything but ya know, theoretically, if I fucked up that badly how much would it approximately be?

I have a I7-4790k and due to things unrelated they make my computer over heat, I don't have a good heat sink so every time I see my cpu go over 4.00ghz I kinda get worried. I'm sure having the cpu go up and down is good for applications and things, but what if I just want it at a fixed clock speed?

Hi all! So essentially, although I have the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x at home, I'm interested in buying a pair of headphones for $50 (or less) that I can use outdoors or for travel, preferably if they were over-ear. I'm open to all suggestions, as long as the headphones actually look good when you're wearing them, and that they, obviously, sound good (I'd rather not have over-powering bass, but I don't mind bass all that much). I need them to look good when I'm wearing them since I'll be taking this pair outdoors, and I don't want them to be some massive, bulky, weird looking cans. So far, all I've found are the m20x, which aren't bad, but I'm not sure about their aesthetics. I could use some more suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I heard that the i5-4690k would bottleneck the gtx 1070. I plan on buying the gtx 1070 over black friday/cyber monday. To my main point, I have never overclocked anything in my life and it seems like i will have to overclock my cpu if I hope to get the full perfomrance of a gtx 1070. My current cooler is a H100i and the motherboard is gigabyte with the most recent bios (not the beta though, F9). https://pcpartpicker.com/b/HFPscf Would anyone be able to walk me through it, I have watched some youtube videos but am still not really sure on what to do. I can skype, discord, or steam voice chat if that makes it easier. Skype: swift.fishy Discord: Swiffi #6765 Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198011365130/

Hey, Is it a problem if my CPU goes to almost 99° celsius? Does it affect my performance? Should I clean all the dust or stay lazy?

So, I bought a Kingston SSD Now V300 two or so years ago. Now, two years later the read speed is about 200MBps at less than full capacity. About 170GB usage of 240GB. This is about half what it was when new. It's still faster than a Hard drive, but I feel the need for something much faster for big games like GTAV and Shadow of Mordor. So I've been looking for a secondary SSD, but I can't seem to find read and writes speeds for drives at 90% capacity, or over time, and that's what I really need to make a purchasing decision. Where can I find such information? What SSD has the least performance degradation over time?

Hey guys, so when I overclock my ryzen 5 1600x on my asrock x370 gaming k4 (atx) motherboard, it sticks to a fixed frequency. It doesn't drop the frequency when idle and it doesn't boost any higher with xfr and precision boost. Is there a way to overclock and achieve this. Thanks in advance

So today I decided to have some fun and try to overclock my 1070. I started out with my base Heaven benchmark (Extreme preset) at a score of 2958 and an average fps of 117. After going up and down clock speeds a little bit I settled on +140 MHz core clock and +600 MHz memory clock. This made my Heaven score a 3170 with an average fps of 126. Going above +140 MHz caused some artifacting (I think?) where it looked like triangles and rectangles were being stretched across the environment and were flashing and general freaking out. I feel I could get more out of my memory but I am overclocking with NZXT's CAM software and +600 MHz is the max it will let me do so I guess that's alright. So how did my card do? And will cooling increase my performance and maybe eliminate the artifacting? Because I didn't touch the voltage and my card topped out around 70C. Next, I might try overclocking my CPU but that's a little more scary to me.

On old pc I have gtx 760 and last noctua thermal paste was changed 5 months ago. In "stupid" World of Tanks on ultra-high-medium graphich setings temps of gpu reach 80°, but 150fps. I don't need this extra fps, so I decided to run Msi Afterburner and set linked power and temp to 75% power and 71° than something go wrong and I set unlinked power 70% and 70°. It's worked perfectly, satisfy 200%, mhz up to around 600 sometimes in moment around 1000mhz, 55-80 fps perfectly. This lasted 3 days. 4th day I power on pc, power WoT and I forget to on msi after burner before I on game, how I often do, so I on it after game andd,.............. PROBLEMS temps over 80°, I go to msi and see linked power is 100% temp 80°, okk "I will fix this" and I set earlier setup,..... game - - - - - 1060 mhz locked temps high fps high fans HIGH?! Okay I did all shutdown pc on game uninstal game, msi afterburner instal try this try this.......... all done gpu driver was updated all done And msi again fuk me in brain or something else. Where I wrong, or programs wrong. Please help me, plsssss!

Hello, Every time I boot my PC I have this message "CPU Temp Over" and it won't let me reach the desktop. CPU temperature caps at 89-90C, if the computer was turned off for a while it lets me go to the desktop and the CPU temperature starts at around 30C then rises steadily until it reaches 89C and the PC reboots. What I tried so far: 1: Reinstalling the CPU cooler. 2: Reapplying the thermal paste. 3: Reinstalling windows 4: Changing the CPU for a new one. (i5-7600k) 5: Clearing CMOS & Updating the BIOS My Specs: Motherboard: Asus 170-A OS: Windows 10 64bit BIOS Update: 3802 RAM: 2x8Go Corsair Vengence LPX 3200Mhz CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K Aftermarket Cooler: Fractal Design Celsius S36 Thermal Paste: Arctic Silver 5 GPU: EVGA GTX 1070ftw PSU: Corsair RM850x 80+ Plat Underwear color: Black When did it happen? It is kinda hard to say as I had temperature spikes long before I got to this state, pinpointing the first moment would be hard as it would be more than a year ago. However for the the error message to appear, that was about 1 month ago. One thing worth mentioning is that a while ago I tried my first overclocking experience for both GPU and CPU, which ended up in me setting everything back to default. Please help me.

Lately while playing games I've noticed my graphics card (zotac gtx 970) constantly slowly climb to about 80c and then my PC shuts off. I've never had a problem with this for the 3 years I've had my system so I have a feeling its the thermal paste on my GPU however I can't be sure yet. I've updated all my drivers, removed all dust from my system and even reinstalled windows but nothings helped, in fact I think it's only gotten worse

Hello everybody, Restarted my PC a few hours ago, only for it to constantly crash if I ran the default overclocking values (from 3.30 GHz to 4.00) and now I have to considerably lower it just for it to boot up. Help? Thanks in advance, Peter.

Hi there! Today I almost killed my laptop because I left it running a game wile on a bed with basically with no fan intake other than what it could manage to get through the mattress for about 10 minutes... It was extremely hot and I was scared sh*tless. Fortunately, the laptop still works, but I don't want it to stop working because I just forgot to close a program... So I am looking for an app to close apps / the os based on a temperature curve. Does such an app exist?

Hey my computer reaches 80 degrees C when playing "demanding" games such as GTA 5 and it used to be around 60-65 at it's highest. Recently it's been exceeding that and I have no idea why! I'm using the Corsair H55 water cooler as well. Here are my specs... AMD A8-6600K Corsair H55 16GB Dual Channel Corsair RAM GTX 560TI MSI A78-E35 1tb HDD 2X Samsung 850 EVO 250GB RAID 0 500W Corsair PSU NZXT S340 Case I've had a look on AMD website at my CPU and it says that it can damage it if it gets hotter than 75 degrees C and when running chrome and spotify it reaches roughly 67 degrees C. This is kinda worrying... hahaha Oh also I've got a fan in the back and 2 fans in the front of the case (I used to have the water cooler mounted on the back but it was creating dust problems fast. I only have 3 case fans in total). Oh also it's a positive air flow too. Thanks!

My GTX960 is having issues for some unknown reason. It just overheats when under almost no stress at all. I don't understand why this would be as i can also hear the fans. Any help welcome.

Hello, So, I've recently upgraded my PC to a Gigabye GA-P55-USB3 Mobo. I also got a i5 750. I heard that the 750 was a great OC CPU, and for the $40 I bought it for, I was sold. I've done some playing around, and I think I've found the sweet spot of a 3.4 ghz OC. This OC is on a stock Intel 1156 socket heatsink/fan. I idle at around 53-55 C. I've tried 3.5 ghz, and I ran at idle of 60-65c. That is a huge jump. I hit around 80-83c under load in Prime95, and around 77-80c on The Divison. Pretty solid temps for a stock cooler. My concern is, why is there such a big jump from 3.4 to 3.5 ghz? I was at about 96-99c at 3.5 ghz in The Division, and I was too afraid to try Prime95. It would be great to get some OC advice! Thanks, Ricky

Title about sums it up... I lived in norway, but am attending Uni in Canada, and due to space constraints, I had to leave the desktop behind. I thought of dismantling the parts, and bringing everything but the case, but since the system is watercooled, that would have been a royal pain in the but. I have the original case box, but since I'm not there the preparation for shipping won't extend to removing the gpu... I have never shipped anything this far, and I'm not even sure if its worth the risk right now, as my laptop is quite capable. Would love to have your guys' input on this...
