Howdy folks! I'm looking at sound cards, DACs and AMPS, and I am a bit confused about them. Then another questions is, does the Astro mixamp do good or is it some overpriced bullshit that just has Astro written on it which makes it "worth more"? And does it even do the same thing? I'm looking to play BOTH pc and PS4 games, which the Astro makes possible by being able to connect to both and use the mix amp for customization of the settings. Do other external DACs (with AMPs built in please) do the same job of being able to connect to my PS4 at the same time though only being plugged in to my computer? Thanks in advance you beautiful humans

Hi everyone, TLDR : create a new hardware device that is basically like a Mixamp TR from Astro and a Sennheiser GSX 1000 but better with as main feature 4 knobs/sliders for 4 channels that control the volume of at least 3 important sound sources in your computer : game, voice chat, browser and a bonus channel for misc sound source. It should work out of the box with major softwares that people use and output sound (games, browsers, voice chats, ...) and provide excellent sound signature and 7.1 immersion. I come to you with an idea. Maybe it's stupid, maybe this is already existing or possible to do via software, but I don't think it exists in a beautiful and simple package. Here we go with two scenarios : 1) Do you happen to stream on Twitch or Youtube ? If so, it may have happened that you want to easily and quickly control the sound volume of everything. Maybe you want to lower the sound of *insert favorite voice chat*, the volume of music playing on Youtube, the volume of the game, ... You can of course do it with the mixer in Windows or manually in each software, but sometimes you don't want to alt-tab because your game runs in fullscreen and is a mess when you exit, or for some other reason maybe... I target this more at casual streamers, I think professional streamers like what we saw in this LTT video can do it no problem. 2) You are a heavy multitasker and you have often a game, a voice chat and a software that outputs sound (may be itunes, browser with youtube video, twitch live stream, ...), etc... that you want to quickly control. I had this idea because when I bought the Mixamp from Astro, I found it extremely convinient to be able to lower the sound of my voice chat when my mates started to go crazy on some stupid video or when someone has low mic volume and game starts punching at you with insane sound FX for a moment (action scene, ...) while your friend tells you something. This little mixing knob is really handy. What if you could have something similar to the Mixamp from Astro, but instead of creating a dedicated sound peripheral in Windows for your voice chat and allow to mix between chat and game/other software (you can't assign browser to sound peripheral), it has 4 dedicated knobs or sliders to control the volume of 4 channels by interacting in some way with the windows mixer or by doing the same calls to windows as the windows mixer does. Also it should provide an external output like the Mixamp to allow you to mix the sound and then send it to whatever is capturing the sound for the stream (input in your sound card, ...). In my vision, it should pretty much be an hybrid between an Astro Mixamp TR, the Sennheiser GSX 1000 (hi hardwarecanucks) and a standard audio mixer with 4 channels. But it should also provide some nice industrial design and be targetted at gamers and streamers but without the "look at me I'm gamery" crap (GSX 1000 is ok). I would retain the nice sound signature and 7.1 from the GSX 1000, the idea of multiples sound profiles from the two but better and the stream port of the Mixamp. The 4th channel could control a sound source in Windows or control the volume of an auxiliary port (like Mixamp has). On the software side, a nice yet simple software to control what channel controls what. Ideally, it should out of box be smart enough to link channel 1 to the current game (may need some "intelligence" here, like in Xsplit but for sound), channel 2 to current voice chat, channel 3 to current browser (youtube, twitch, spotify, ...) and let the user assign manually the 4th (software, auxiliary port, ...). Of course, everything can be adjusted in the software, like tweaking the sound profiles and the game detection should inspire itself from Geforce Experience. But basically, you would expect it to work perfectly out of the box by detecting your games, your voice chats, your browser, any meaningful software that can output sound and mapping them while also having beautiful game, music, movie and general use profiles. What do you think ? P.S. : If someone creates it after seeing this, please send me one, I'll be more than happy to test it (don't take this too seriously please as I am not)

As the title says. I want to be able to receive audio from both the PC and PS4 on one headset. Am I able to do this with the chords the headset came with? Or do I have to purchase a mixamp? And if a mixamp, which one? I want to be able to listen to music and hear Twitch alerts from PC while also being able to hear my gameplay from the same headset with the same crisp audio quality this headset has.

Hi, so i have recently gotten an Akg K7xx headset. I've been using a Feenix Aria comboed with an Astro Mixamp, but since i got the k7xx ive noticed that the lows and the overall sound of the headsett feels like its not getting enough juice. So then i was researching and thinking about getting the GSX 1000 and plugging my k7xx into that, since the ohm's adds up. But i found out that the power requirments from the k7xx would be more than the gsx 1000 could provide. I play games with this headset and listen to music when im working on my computer, so an amp that is suitable for gaming foremost would be good enough. So basically my question is: do anyone have any recommendations or any experience with an amp for the k7xx that gives it enough power to run fine? OR is it possible to combo the Mixamp i have from before with something simple as the soundblaster E5 or a fiio? Amps ive been looking at : Blasterx G5 Blasterx E5 Fiio E9 Fiio E12 BenQ VITAL Thanks in advance

So I have an Elgato HD60s, Nintendo switch, two monitors, and the astro mixamp. I know how to plug in my switch to my elgato and get it up on obs and everything's all good... for the stream, but i can't hear my switch. I tried using a elgato chat link and connected one end to the capture card and the other to the mixamp on the switch. This works but there is way to much static coming through. Any tips on what i could do?

Hi, I recently got my new motherboard, the MSI Z97 Gaming 5. The problem with it is that it doesnt has got an Optical Port. The Astro mixamp used to connect with my pc with the optical port, wich i dont have right now. Im connecting my A40 via a 3.5mm audio jack to my pc. So i looked up some cheap 5.1 soundcards and i came across the "Asus Xonar DG", it has an optical port and it is 5.1 dolby. Is it going to be any good? Am i realy getting that 5.1 with this soundcard? links: Asus Xonar DG MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Astro Mixamp

hey guys, One little question. Which one has the best sound? I own bove of them, don't ask me why, but i'm not really an audiophile and i'm curious which one is better. I'm almost sure that the Astro has better soundquality, but I just want some feedback. The astro is from 2011 btw.

So after spending about 3 days looking for solutions to my problem without any advancements, I can say, I'm finally done.. So, the mixamp works, I can change the volume and so on, but the surround function does not work and neither does the EQ presets. I hear no difference at all between the different ones. I have it plugged in optically and via USB, but if I plug out my optical cable, the mixamp continues to work, so all the sound go via USB. I have a z87-G45 motherboard and Siberia V2 headset for now but picking up Beyerdynamic DT 990 later today. If I still can't fix this after this, I'll probably send it back and get something else. My friend whose "good" with sound recommended this, but he have never used it so he can't help me. But I would appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks in advance.

Hey Guys, I am looking to move away from headsets for gaming to specifically headphones and separate microphone as I have a blue Microphone. I have heard the headphones mentioned in the title are great but I was wondering if anyone has used them for gaming and also if they have used them with an Astro Mixamp or equivalent? I have had the mixamp for a long time and no matter what headset I have used it has given good sound, so I can only imagine the sound on headphones will be great! Any help would be appreciated. Kyle

So, I get stuck here and then with the odd question regarding computer building etc but this question really is the real MVP. How do I configure surround sound for my Astro A40 Headset and Astro Mixamp? I am flooded with software from my motherboard telling me to do this and that to setup surround sound... (Asus Maximus VII Hero) ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC - Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking Audio Feature : - SupremeFX Shielding™ Technology - ELNA premium audio capacitors - Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection - DTS Connect - Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel - Sonic SoundStage - Sonic SenseAmp - Sonic Studio - Sonic Radar II My understanding is that the mixamp will encode my sound into surround sound for me but I sent astro gaming an email and apparently that it's not as simple as just plugging my Mixamp into my pc. "The MixAmp is a sound card and a Dolby decoder and will give a slightly simulated surround sound. If your PC does not have a sound card capable of Dolby Digital Live, it will not tell the MixAmp to decode Dolby as the PC is not capable of it." So does this mean I need a sound card with dolby digital live? If so what is the point of having a built in sound card on the mobo? And will I be able to make use of the features stated above with my new sound card? THIS IS SO CONFUSING..How do I even know where to plug my Mixamp in..the sound card....in mobo... in a usb port.. How do I even make sure the pc is sending the sound in surround sound to my mixamp so it can 'decode dolby' I'm upset.

is the mixamp pro worth the extra $50-$60 for the Astro A40s?

I have been wanting to get the FiiO E10k for a while, as it doubles as an Amp and a DAC. However, I already have the Astro Mixamp (which is only an AMP, not a DAC). Would It make a big enough difference to upgrade, or should I just spend it on something else? Thanks, Derple

I am looking for a mixer that mixes two stereo audio sources together and output all of that to my cans. I need to be able to hear both the computer and the console simultaneously. Has to be stereo. I want it to do something like this... Here is something a little bit more comprehensible... If you can find me such hardware, I will love you forever.

I'm trying to setup up my 2013 Astro a40's with my PC via the Mixamp pro. I cannot get the audio to work with the optical out... I can only get it via USB. I believe the problem is a driver issue with the optical out of my MSI Z87 G45/ Realtek HD audio manager. Everything is plugged in correctly, all cables work, the optical cable has the laser, and have successfully used with PS4 and PC recently Ive tried selecting Realtek Digital Output (I think this should be optical out) as my playback device in the control panel but no sound will play. If i select Headset earphone in control panel (I believe is USB) audio works. Im pretty sure this is a Realtek driver issue (I have updated/reinstalled) or a configuration issue. How do I get audio playback to go through my optical cable?

Hey, so my mixamp pro 2013 that I use with my astro a40 keeps playing up, which is extremely annoying. I really do love the functionality of the mixamp (plus I like the design of the a40 mixamp combo) but really don't want to spend too much on audio gear (Astro a40 + mixamp cost about $250 brand new for me, I know that's not much in the world of audiophiles but before that I used a second-hand turtlebeach x12 which was total crud). 1) The least annoying problem is the "hiss" noise it likes to make, really drives me insane. Any solutions to this first problem would be greatly appreciated. 2) The most annoying problem is the weird balance between the left and right knob when changing the volume, when turning the volume knob the volume for each earcup changes independantly of the other earcup and usually I am forced to keep it at around 75%-90%. Any solutions to this would also be greatly appreciated (a way I was thinking of fixing it was to change the volume slider within Windows, but the master slider seems to not have an impact on external DACs such as the astro mixamp so a solution for that would also be nice to know) Sorry that I had to ask you guys but this really has been bugging me, many thanks in advance.

So.. Christmas is around corner and I am looking for a new headset. For 1 year I have this Genius shitty headset which are almost broken (the plastic pieces on the side which hold the cups are broken..only thing that is holding the cup is the cable....I ducktaped it so it holds somehow). I recently built a gaming pc and now I am looking for new headset. For sound card I am using on-board audio from Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5.....The question is: Can this on-board sound card handle Sennheiser Game Zero and "unlock its full potential"? If it can't I am probably going to buy Astro A40's.. I know this post doesn't make much sense, but please, help me choose Tell me your opinions and your experiences with these headsets or with headsets in that rang (price point). Thank you (hope you can understand)

Sup guys! I recently bought a HyperX Cloud Headset and it sounds great. But there seems to be an issue with low voice chat volume on the PS4s built in party feature. With party volume on maximum, the voice chat is still too low. Several people on the European Playstation forums have also pointed this out. So I was thinking I could get an amplifier or controller which has a balance knob (voice/game) or similar which would boost the voice volume a bit. I've tried the Astro MixAmp with my headset but it seems like there is some static noise every time I speak (as my buddies has mentioned several times). This is not a problem with the headset plugged in to the controller but then I have the low chat volume instead. I most of the time I have to turn the game volume down to 40/50 percent just to have a decent amount of chat volume. I've had a look at Turtle Beach amplifiers and in particular the SEVEN controller that's included with the SEVEN headset (the one Linus unboxed). Have you guys had any experience using Turtle Beach amplifiers with other headsets? Or any other amplifiers/controllers for that matter. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you for your time. Update: Turtle Beach answered one of my tweets saying I should look into http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/upgrade-kits-accessories/ear-force-seven-mobile-to-console-upgrade-kit/404 which is the exactly the same gear you would get if you ordered any of the SEVEN headset bundles. They also said this: "That said, we cannot tell you how well that will work with any headphones but ours."
