I currently have the DT 990 pro which I'm very happy with (sound-wise), however, the issue I'm having is the earpads. When I first got them, my ears slightly touched the inside, but I thought it would go away when I wore them in, but they didn't, it has only gotten worse. I looked at some bigger earpads, but they would be upwards to 100 dollars, hence the shipping. Been looking at some other headphones, like the HD6xx and HD58x, and I can't decide on what to pick from. I mainly do gaming but watch a lot of movies, series and youtube etc. I also been looking at other headphones such as the "HIFIMAN", any recommendations? Using the massdrop DAC/AMP combo.

Hey, I thought I could help you guys out in trying to solve one of my problems. I'm allotting a few weeks to work on a "software micro-startup". I've got tech experience and I've run a small business for about a decade now , not in tech, and wanted to buff up my tech skills within the context of something I'm familiar with - business. Just wanted to know if you guys have any problems you want sorted. Not asking for any kind of money or pre-order or anything like that. I just want to build something useful, and thought it best to ask what you want and go from there. Obviously no guarantees, but if something comes of it we'll both be happy. tl;dr: Write ideas for something you want (or think you want) so I can practice coding and you can solve a pain point.

As of April 17, 2020, the linear amplifier Drop + THX AAA 789 has dropped in price from USD400 to USD300. For anyone in the market for a new standalone amplifier (no built in DAC), this may be your go to now. Crystal clear sound, with power to drive any headphone in the market. It really offers a fantastic value for what you get, and it would be the next tier after the likes of Schiit Magni Heresy and JDS Atom (similar sound signature, but cleaner). Product page: https://drop.com/buy/drop-thx-aaa-789-linear-amplifier/talk Although my opinion is that you should care less about measurements and more about how things sound to your personal tastes, here you can see how it performs objectively: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-massdrop-thx-aaa-789-amp.5001/ Tip of the decade, free of charge: DO NOT cheap out on your DAC, especially when going with the Drop 789. Based on personal experience, I can say that its clean nature easily allows you to tell the difference between good and bad sources. DACs are not only about giving you multi-functionality, but also making the sound be more accurate. You will, however, get more functions when spending big bucks, with the ADI-2 being my recommendation in that category, especially considering the price (not cheap, but a good value nonetheless).

Hello all! I've just purchased the ALEX CAVALLI TUBE HYBRID AMP and GRACE DESIGN STANDARD DAC. I have always been into audio, but never really pulled the trigger. I was looking to pair the two with the SENNHEISER HD 58X JUBILEE HEADPHONES, so I purchased them too. Sometimes I feel extremely torn between them, as it sometimes seems (from what people say) the 6XX are somehow just a waaay superior headphone. About me: I do like quite a neutral sound signature, but my "secret pleasure" is and always has been a bit of bass (definitely not muddy or overpowered, just present, if you know what I mean - to make the music sound more "alive"). Now I do understand that the HD 58X/6XX are not basshead headphones and I am perfectly okay with that. But you should also know that I am not looking to analyse or monitor my music or equipment, but rather to listen to the actual music and, of course, enjoy it. And this is where we come to my decision about purchasing the HD 58X over the HD6XX's... from what I've read it seems like the HD 6XX headphones are a bit more "sterile", analytical and cooler sounding, while the HD58X (which are intended to be pretty much my daily driver for movies, gaming and music listening - mixed genre) are a bit warmer, have a touch more bass and are just more enjoyable and easy to listen to. I know they don't really need an amp for the most part, but I really wanted to get a setup that would be able to support maybe even some other harder to drive headphones in the future and I was hoping that the tube (I know it's a hybrid, but still) would help with the smoothness and warmth - at least a bit. About the drivers: What's also gotten me worried is that the 6XX's use pretty much the same driver as the original HD 650 (basically a $500 pair of headphones), but the HD 58X use a newer driver, that is apparently NOT the same as the HD 660 S (as confirmed by Sennheiser, apparently).. and so at this point I am asking myself: is the $170 price on Massdrop right now actually worth it? What if I am actually getting a much much cheap driver that was just tuned to sound good? - I do realise this is a funny and stupid thing to be worried about, but still.. I believe it is an interesting aspect of this situation to at least consider taking a look at. So this brings me to the question: did I make the right choice based on what I'm looking for, because sometimes forums, videos on YT and reviews online make me feel like I should have gotten the HD 6XX instead? I would really appreciate your input. Thank you all in advance!

Hey- I'm looking for a good combination of a headphone+accesories for under $450 to listen to LoFi and game on, mainly (No gaming headphone please)!Currently I'm looking at 6xx's with the Schitt stack (magni 3+ and the modi), but I was wondering if I could go wireless and still get a similar experience, with something like the Drop+THX panda wireless since my old wireless headphones (Hear.on.2's) are getting a bit old and don't fit super well on me anymore. I do travel a fair bit and like to have good audio at hand while I travel, but I would prioritize sound quality over portability, being honest. Any help is appreciated, and my mind is open to new recommendations!

So...I was going to buy the K7xx, I joined the drop, and went a couple days happy with my decision, until I watched some reviews and stumbled across K712 reviews.... Supposedly it's the premium version of the K7xx, does everything the 7xx does, but better (ie the things it improves over the 701/702)... So I was intrigued, shopped around, and they were 500 at most places, 300 at amazon, hundred bucks more, but the build quality alone is worth it, as I heard from many people on forums and whatnot... Then I found them for $226 with free shipping, site looked too good to be true, had to be a scam, selling fake headphones or something, right? Well, the only negative reviews I could find about the site (on third party sites) was with customer service, everyone who got their products, was happy with them, sometimes orders would be cancelled unexpectedly, or take a while to ship out, but nothing out of the ordinary with an online retailer... So i pulled the trigger....on freaking Tuesday...well they shipped....from Hong Kong on tuesday night, and they arrived today (Thursday)....again, free shipping...and they're legit, far as I can tell, they sound amazing, they feel premium, they were in a new, sealed retail package, and have Made in Slovakia (EU) on both the box, and the headphones, and they feel it. So....this deal is legit, and it came out to less than the K7xx did (especially living in california, where I have to pay tax on massdrop). So, just putting this out there, if you are interested in the K7xx, you should check these out as you'll get them much faster, and possibly cheaper than the k7xx. https://www.eglobalcentral.com/akg-k712-pro-kopfhoerer.html I can attach pictures of the headphones if people want, maybe someone wants to inspect and tell me if they're knock offs... I admit, I'm still wary about the whole thing, just seems too good to be true.

The Sennheiser HD6XX are a pair of open back headphones made in a collaboration by Sennheiser and Massdrop. Massdrop in case you don't know is group buying website. They have different communities and they talk to companies to get a bulk order; the more people buy the lower the price will get. Anyways with that out of the way let’s start. And I’ll start by saying that I’m not audiophile, I don't consider myself an audiophile, however I do understand audio more than an average person does so this review is from someone that likes good audio and that understands good audio more than the average person. Audio is very subjective, everybody's ears are different and everybody likes different sound signatures. Anyways the HD6XX are based on the HD650 another pair of Sennheiser headphones, I however don't own the 650’s so this review is coming from somebody new to these particular headphones. Also the 6XX are supposed to have the same drivers and acoustics as the 650’s I am not able confirm or deny that, however many credible sources have confirmed this. The 650’s were originally retailed for $499 when they came out over a decade ago, and even today you’re going to find them at over $400 because even today they regarded as one of the best price to performance headphones. However the 6XX were only $199 thanks to Massdrop! This is what the box looks like and inside of the box you get the headphones themselves and ¼ inch adapter. The cable is 4.5 feet long and terminates into a 3.5 mm jack but can also be used with other audio equipment with the ¼ inch adapter. Both the 3.5 and ¼ jacks are gold plated. The cable is removable but is very secure in place. The headphones have a 300 ohm impedance so using a good DAC short for digital-to-analog converter and a good headphone amplifier will get you the best sound out of these headphones however it’s not necessary but HIGHLY recommended. Now for the sound quality and right off the back I’ll start by saying these headphones sound incredible! There is so much detail that 6XX are able to reproduce everything from string been picked in an acoustic guitar to even a breath been taken by a singer. There is so much instrumental separation as well. Listening to something with multiple instruments like “Hotel California” by Eagles brings out each and every single instrument. None of the instruments are overpowering the others either. It all sounds very natural as well it’s as if though you are right there and not listening out of headphones. For example while listening to the song I was able to tell which drum the drummer was slamming because the sound of drumming would on the left or right ear or on both if it was the central drum and each drum had a distinct sound and distance as well, I know that what I’m saying may not make complete sense but it’s something you have to hear to understand what I’m talking about. All vocals male and female sound great, on other headphones while listening to someone that can reach a really high note will sound kind of “raspy” but the 6XX reproduces them very smoothly. Listening to a violin in something by Lindsey Stirling sounds really good and I didn’t get that “scratchy” sound that some other headphones might produce. While listening to some EDM and rap the headphones had a very nice bass “thump”, something that seriously surprised me considering the fact that the 6XX are open back headphones. Even when plugged directly my cellphone and playing some games I was able to hear so many more details which I hadn’t heard before with other headphones. Speaking of games the soundstage of the 6XX is very wide making them ideal for gaming. While playing a wide variety of games I was able to very easily tell where something was with just the headphones without any of the “virtual surround sound” BS that many gaming headsets market. I could tell when someone coming down a corridor and I could also hear when they were about to turn the corner. It all sounded very natural it feels as if though you are right there. The 6XX produce a balanced sound but is not neutral. What I mean is the headphones have a very slight emphasis towards the bass, and when I say slight, it’s minuscule. The “balanced” sound comes from the fact that even though it may have a bit of emphasis towards certain frequencies it doesn’t emphasise them to point that it drowns out other frequencies. Other headphones for example may emphasize the low and high end but completely drowns out the mid-range. The 6XX’s “balanced” sound is really good as it makes better for all kinds of music and game genres. The 6XX are very comfortable, however they are not comfortable right out the box. They have strong clamping force when you first take them out the box and if you have a big head like I do then this is even more noticeable. However after using the headphones for a few days they loosened up and now they’re very comfortable. I have found myself using the headphones for hours at a time while doing some gaming sessions and never felt a need to take them off and rest. I haven’t use the headphones during summer so they may or may not get uncomfortable due to heat but as of right now in the winter I haven’t had any complaints. Lastly I want to talk about some things to consider, they’re not necessarily bad things about the headphones, to be honest there isn’t a thing I dislike about the headphones but they’re things to consider before you think about purchasing either the 650’s or the 6XX if they are available. First is the biggest strength but also it’s biggest weakness and that is the open back nature of the headphones. The open back nature means that they provide a much better and natural sound compare to closed back headphones but at the same time they let sound in and out which means you’ll be able to hear everything around you and everybody around you will be able to hear everything you are listening to. These headphones are more suitable for a home environment where there will be little to no sound around you and when you don’t have too many people around you. You also need to consider the fact that these headphones have a high impedance at 300 ohms to put that into perspective most headphones and earbuds that are meant to be used with a mobile device like a cellphone or MP3 player only have an impedance of 12-50 ohms so to get the best sound out these headphones you are going to need some kind of DAC and headphone amp. Lastly if you are looking for perfectly neutral sounding headphones then these are not it however it’s neutral enough and since they produce so much detail these headphones can easily be used to do audio editing. Any feedback will be much appreciated!

AKG and Massdrop have done it again. AKG's new product, the K553 Pro Studio Headphone is being launched exclusively by Massdrop, at an incredible price. From the site: "AKG’s latest revision to the K550 line is a complementary product to the open-back K7XX. Delivering noise isolation and bassy goodness in a closed-back design that won’t leak sound, the AKG K553 Pro Studio Headphone aims to provide a high-end listening experience at an entry-level price." Posting this here in hopes The LTT Crew will check these out, seeing as Linus was a big fan of the K7XX. I myself will most likely participate in this Drop. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/akg-k553-pro-studio-headphone Thanks for listening!

I'm considering buying the K7XX's which are currently selling on Massdrop. Would I be able to run them on my motherboards built in soundcard? It's a Maximus VIII Formula. Also, I've never really owned an expensive pair of headphones before and I wanted to know if the price hike is worth it on them? I've got a few friends who say it's not but I would like to see other peoples opinons. I'm currently using a pair of M-Audio BX5 D2'S for most of my audio needs, I am however moving to a place which wont let me crank up the volume too loud because of noise complains, thus my idea of buying a nice pair of headphones. Cheers.

So, the Fostex TH-X00 are back on Massdrop, I am very tempted to get them, but my only concern is how much they will add to my current setup. I currently own the HD-600 (I love these) and the Oppo PM-3 (love these as well) with Amp/Dac JDS Labs Element (love this as well). I was wondering how much different/better they would be than the Oppo PM-3 as it is a much more mobile solution and how much I would gain from splurging the 400$ for these headphones. Any advice from someone who owns/has experience with the Fostex TH-X00's would be very appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, I've never bought anything from the brand HiFiMAN but I've always heard good thing about it. Does anyone know anything about the RE-00? I've been looking for a pair of new earphones (IEMs) that are decent, are noise isolating and are durable. By durable I don't mean anything crazy but I'd like them to last longer than 2 years. I treat my earphones pretty well normally; I've used my previous pair for 7 years before they finally started falling apart. If these aren't that great, anything with the budget of approx $200 CAD would be good I normally use the Sennheiser HD598 at home so the closer to that the better (Yes i know it's openback and no I don't want any earphones that are openback if such exists). Thanks!

https://www.massdrop.com/buy/kennerton-iems I've ordered the $20 iems on massdrop, mainly because I want something to replace the ones that are designed to fall out and not isolate anything aka apple earpods, but now getting inpatient as the shipping date is 5 September All the information seems to be pointing to the more expensive pairs, and can't find any reviews of these, I get it, they are cheap but I don't have the money to buy anything else, could someone let me know if they'd be a good upgrade for me, or if I've wasted my money.

Hi all! As some of you may know Massdrop is selling two Cavalli amps, one is an hybrid, and the other one is his famous Liquid Carbon. Seems like a lot of people loves Cavalli amps while others think they're garbage. What do you think? Does any of you has first hand experience with Cavalli amps?

So, it's a little bit grey as to who has control over the use and sale of the HALO keyswitches based on an article on Tom's Hardware, where basically the Input Club is in a dispute with Massdrop on being able to use the Halo switches on their latest keyboards being offered on Kickstarter. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/massdrop-input-club-halo-switches,35468.html This morning, September 15, Massdrop posted an official response, which reads in part: Basically, Massdrop is saying that Input Club can only sell key switches outside of Massdrop as replacement parts, standalone switches or from the Input Club's website. What makes this interesting is that I would presume that the Input Club would eventually make any Kickstarter boards available through their website and therefore be meeting the sale from Input Club site... Sounds like both sides could have an argument on this and maybe they just need a mediator.

So I recently ordered the Massdrop Vast 35-Inch Curved Gaming Monitor. I currently am using a GTX 970 to power my games, but I don't think that will cut it for 3440x1440 at 100hz. I have to opportunity to grab a 1080ti around Christmas, but the monitor doesn't ship until mid February of 2018. Would it be wise to just be patient and wait for volta, or will it end up being released late 2018. Thanks in advance!
