I'm not trying to make this sounds like a big deal, but I am still seriously peeved. The Translucent bezel was one of the selling points for me to get Laptop 13, but it was out of stock when I needed to order mine for university. The bezel option is now back, sporting a few advertisements of their "limited run" on youtube and instagram. These videos do not mention that you can only purchase the bezel option when buying a brand new laptop 13. Framework Marketplace has no listing for the bezel, which saddens me deeply.

Guys I need your help my framework laptop has been broken for over a year with a display issue and framework refuses to send me a replacement display because I'm using a freight forwarding address (ordering from US then shipping it to my home address) they were happy to sell me a laptop to that address but refuse to ship me parts. even though my laptop was under warranty when it broke I'm still happy to pay for my replacement part, but every time I try to place an order on their website they send me an email declining my order a day after, contacting customer service didn't help at all (they were very adamant not to ship me parts) i hope someone here can share this post with Linus since no one else can help me

I have an Intel Framework and I have been using an eGPU (Sonnet w/ 2080ti) for about a week now. I've only connected and turned on the laptop with the eGPU connected 3-4 times so far. However, twice I had to enter a Bitlocker Recovery key when turning on the laptop. Any idea whats going on or how to stop this? It'll be really annoying if this becomes regular. I know bitlocker is mostly for storage and affects if the storage is removed and re-added, but I haven't touched either the system's storage in the chassis or my storage usb c extension (the one that is an official framework accessory).

Status: Final Important Notes: I've design this to work on my AMD Frameworks motherboard and the Intel boards are untested. Follow this guide at your own risk. Spoilers: Framework has hamstrung the AMD Ryzen chipset by throttling the CPU to a paltry sum of just 17W. Under all core utilization the max that I can my chip to clock upto is 2100 Mhz, and 1750 Average Mhz. I was able to clock the 760m to a boost clock of 2400 before the performance starts to fall on it's face. For overclocking I am using AATU though not fully supported I was able to clock the iGPU higher than what I was able to by default. I had ambitions of making the cpu holder customized to replace the Framework cooler with desktop eniterly but this mod is all that is needed to keep the fan from making an absolute ear piercing noise. With the fan directly contacting the heat pipes it's able to keep the whole package under 42C. If you are able to get the 7000 Series Mobile processor to overclock please let me know. Till then this project is done. Description: I've spent yesterday modeling a replacement cover that holds the heatsink in place over the top of the heatsinks off the cooler-master heat spreader. Similar to the design as Elevated Systems design but adapted to suit the model of Nactua heatsink I've selected. It utilizes the holes in the aluminium sheets and the actual heat tubes to compress the heatsink down onto the existing heat pipes. Printed with rigid enough material should apply enough force to compress the heatsink down to effectively transfer heat to Nactua heatsink and fan. Works in progress: *Automatic speed controls depending on the CPU temp via eBay +12VDC adapter. Example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/305269828606 Community Ideas: (Suggestions here) Things you'll need *Frameworks/Cooler Masters Standalone Case *Frameworks AMD Motherboard *3D printer with build volume of 200mm*150mm *2mm thermal pads to pickup a few voltage regulators (optional) *2x M2x8mm bolts Reference: Link to Elevated Systems video - Hopes and Dream: Future projects on this are to integrate the standalone case and external GPU case. Though after exhaustive research it's not currently worth the investment of the hardware. Maybe after USB5 comes out then it can be more worth while but till then it's just simply not worth it. Happy printing Framework Fan Mod Right V1.0.STL Framework Fan Mod Left V1.0.STL

Hi All, As or the title and here is the article: https://www.securityweek.com/laptop-maker-framework-says-customer-data-stolen-in-third-party-breach/ The first few paragraphs give the story: Rather a shame but it seems more and more likely that it's when companies are breached not if Kind Regards Simon Zerafa

Summary Laptop manufacturer Framework Computer, Inc. has privately informed affected customers that their data was compromised in a third-party data breach. An employee at an external accounting partner, Keating Consulting Group, inadvertently shared customer information with attackers who exploited a phishing email. The breach apparently only affects people associated with outstanding balances for Framework purchases. However, it's worth noting that, according to some Framework forum members, they have received the compromise notification emails even if their last purchase was fully paid and fulfilled more than two years ago. Quotes: My thoughts While Framework has taken intimidate measures to address the situation, such as notifying affected individuals and warning them about potential phishing e-mails they might receive, as well as implementing mandatory phishing training for employees with access to customer information... No public official statement has been issued yet (that I'm aware of, please correct me if I am wrong). I've seen some people commending them for their transparent approach to this issue, however it seems* to me they just did what the law required them to do: * I am not a legal professional, and I am not a resident of California or the USA. Hey, I'm asking here because my question are getting banned on r/framework. Framework doesn't allow you to ship to all EU countries. That is fine, but they actively penilize users that try to buy laptop in supported country and take it back home into unsupported country. My case is that I lived Germany, bought framework laptop and then moved to an unsupported country few months later. My laptop broke and Framework voided my warranty because I traveled with the Framework laptop outside of Germany. I lived in Germany, I wasn't home when the parcel was supposed to arrive so I ship forwarded (that's what I always do when I'm not home). And Framework is denying my warranty claim because I used ship forwarding when ordering my laptop. And it's not that they don't want to pay for shipping. They rejected to send me replacement to my old German address (my old roommate still lives there). They just outright ignore my emails or reply with different version of "you broke ToC, we won't respond to your request". I asked ECC, and all of them told me that this is not legal and that it's some BS, but since I don't have contract with EU based entity they can't help (these laws apply even for american companies, just ECC is supposed to watch only EU based companies). They said that some German authorities could help, I reached out to them for help. After the reading the full framework ship forwarding page they even say that "hand-carrying laptop into unsupported country" is enough to get your warranty voided. Which is insane especially in europe where people cross borders very frequently. I like framework, but this is shitty and illegal practice. For americans: imagine if they voided your warranty if you traveled to a different state on vacation. What can I do to get my warranty accepted (as required by European/German law)? EDIT: originally I wanted to make this complain sound more insane so I didn't tell the full truth. That was not good idea, sorry. I corrected the story to contain all information. I left all old text in place, but crossed out.

More than a month ago, the Fairphone 5 was released. After Linus his good impression on the Fairphone 4 and his personal investment in "Framework", surely you could expect a Fairphone 5 review from him. But nope, despite all his claims that he is a big fan of sustainability, long software support and repairability, he published videos about Apples new phone, Googles new phone, A laptop on Aliexpress, game consoles with illegal game collections on Aliexpress, a Temu gaming setup, etc... If he is honestly so "invested" in a better future for consumer hardware. Why does he keep creating videos about products form companies that are mostly fishy ( Chinese webshops and their sellers ) or products from companies that already dominate the hardware space ( Apple, Google ) and not actual products that were designed to change the way consumers handle their hardware? He got the phone for free, he claims he likes products like that, but refuses to publish a video on it? The only possible explanation I have is that Framework is working on a smartphone. Or he's simply someone who just tells people what they want to hear.

Budget (including currency): N/A Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Want 30/40fps (Monitor has freesync) at 1440p in games like Baldur's gate. Other details: I got a 1185g7 intel framework after my 11th gen desktop died (I use avx-512). I plan on using my 3080ti as an egpu for gaming. Should I ask framework if I can preorder a ryzen 7 7840 motherboard (replacing the 11th gen) or is it not worth it?

I hate smartphones because of arbitrary software compatibility issues (as well as some actual technical ones). Laptops are better, so I want to replace my Google Pixel 7 Pro with a Framework laptop, but obviously, it needs cellular capabilities to do that. I did find a thread detailing this. I need to know, when will it become available? I need it! https://community.frame.work/t/lte-cat-4-cell-modem-card/9454

I need a new computer and I need help deciding what to get. I have a $1000 max budget and I cannot go any higher. My current PC is a Dell OptiPlex 9020 with an intel i7 4770 with onboard graphics. The two options that I am torn between are: 1. A Framework laptop mainboard with Cooler Master case and I/O cards 2. A Steam Deck with 3rd party dock with M.2 Slot and Samsung SSD for more storage. I know how to use Linux; I used KDE Neon for about a year and learned a lot from that (Thanks Linux Challenge for inspiring me). I also checked my Steam Library and all my games work on Linux. I do also, however, love Windows 11. I am a Windows Insider and I love to play around with Windows. That is Why I am torn. I would like to know your thoughts on what I should get.

Hi everyone, I made the pre-order about two weeks ago. Since i live in Cyprus which is not one of the framework supported EU countries, i used a forward shipping company to put my order in. Today I got this email from them(attached screenshot). Is there any legitimate reason (legal or otherwise) for not letting the order go through? After all it is my responsibility where the item ends up since I selected the address. I am very bumped about this and worried that my small country will not be supported for a long time...

So the framework 16 looks like something I want: detachable gpu, big screen, numpad. However they said spring this year and they haven't updated since then (with it being spring for a month now). I want them to do well but the silence is deafening. I hope they haven't lost too many sales of FW13 because of this and have what happened to Osborne happen to them.

Hello! I have the LTT Screwdriver and a Framework Laptop. If you have a Framework, you know there is a weird 6-pointed screw used all around on it. What bit set do I need to buy for the screwdriver to be able to to maintenance on Frameworks with it? I am pretty sure it would be the Torx set, but it may be the Specialty set. I just want to buy the right thing. Thank you!

Summary Linus teased that the new Frameworks with AMD had some nice features. AMD has lifted the embargo so now Framework published all the specs. Quotes My thoughts I've wanted a Framework but didn't want an Intel CPU. This is exciting. Sources https://frame.work/blog/announcing-the-framework-laptop-13-powered-by-amd-ryzen

Hey guys! I’ve got a Ryzen 5 framework laptop on preorder, and was wondering what the best options for ram and an ssd. Definitely want 16gb, and I’m thinking 1tb of storage. Just don’t know if there are any brands that are best and I know you don’t want to go too cheap on m.2s, dram cache and all. Been a while since I’ve looking at laptop hardware, so any help is appreciated! Any good deals are welcome as well!

Linus recently reviewed the Framework laptop and stated in a later episode that he was so impressed that he invested in the project. I absolutely agree that this is a valuable project and that it deserves to win. As I travel frequently and do all my work on the road, an expandable laptop like the Framework is ideal for my needs. It is also the ideal size, at 13." A 15" is too large for all the places I need to use it, which is sometimes a hostel-bed in a far corner of the world. I do have some features I'd like to see and I'd like to run it by the forum, before I contact framework with a feature request. What I'd like to see added to the Framework laptop, on later models, is a second internal ssd. I know that you can add a second ssd module on usb; but, this tends to be slow during cloning, which is the exclusive method I use for data backups. I use clonezilla, on a usb-stick for this. All of my systems (laptops exclusively) are multiboot. My current system has Windows 10, debian Buster and Ubuntu. When I have a system with 2-ssd slots, I use the second for "internal" backup, which is bunches faster than hanging the backup drive on a usb port and doesn't require the external drive at all. I used to clone drive to drive (bare-metal); but, I currently only save the image to the backup drive. I'm completely confident in this methodology and clonezilla for this. While the scenario I described is convenient, it leaves something to be desired. A more ideal hardware configuration would be to have 4x internal ssd slots. Please allow me to explain, as there is madness to my method One thing I've learned multibooting is that Windows just won't play nice with other distros; so, it's best isolated on it's own drive, with my linux distros on a secondary system-drive. Also, internal b/u is so much faster and convenient than external b/u that it would be ideal for each system-drive to have it's own internal b/u drive, NVMe preferred, all around. With M.2 ssds (2280s) the form factor is small enough to accommodate this, even in a 12.6" unit. The b/u drives could be hibernated or electrically switched-off, when not in use. This could be done with switches or in the BIOS/UEFI firmware to save power. I imagine the b/u drives should be twice the size of the system-drives. For example, both the Windows 10 drive and the linux system drive can be 1TB, with their respective b/u drives being 2TB. This would allow the creation of an equal or better sized partition, to store b/u images; and a separate spare data partition, where the user might store his music, videos, games, etc. There might be several power mitigation strategies that could be handled at the BIOS or OS level, depending on whether the user wants one or both of the b/u drives to be completely off or just sleeping; so, that they're available on-standby, without rebooting and reconfiguring the firmware. I would also allow all four ssd slots to be configured as systems drives. As the system ages and accidents happen, this just might save the user's canadian-bacon some day, if a primary-slot fails. BTW, I love canadian-bacon. It's my favorite vegetable

Hello, I booted up my 2020 13" MBP running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 today and was greeted with a macOS dialog box saying what's in the title of this post. The dialog box would show up every few seconds after dismissing it. Ran a scan with Malwarebytes and no threats were detected. Did some searching and came across this HPForum post: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Message-quot-HPDeviceMonitoring-framework-will-damage-your/td-p/7824355 Guy by the name of IronBadger (alleged Employee of HP) provides a link to download HP Easy Start which you can then use to remove existing HP software from your Mac. I uninstalled everything and after a restart the warning went away. Iron Badger claims that the issue is the result of out of date software (the security certificates have expired). Hopefully anyone else who is experiencing this can find this thread and move on.

Hi guys! I will be moving soon to Tanzania (not reliable electricity neither internet - need for battery and at least 1TB storage), and I am looking for a laptop that fits me, could you please help me? I am a computer engineer and video game's developer, but lately, I've been kind of lost with PC hardware... I am looking for a laptop with as much battery life as possible, but powerful enough to develop "indie games" and other software. Then I'd love to have repairability and, if possible, quality parts/structure. So far, the one that have caught my eye is the Framework Laptop (with an i7-1280P). However, it is a bit too expensive for me, and I am not sure about it not having a dedicated graphics card. Do you have any recommendations for my use case? Thanks!!!!

Hi, I'm currently looking for a laptop to use in the computer science classrooms. I don't know if I should wait for Framework to open shipment to my country (Italy) or wait for the new generation of Intel laptop chips or just buy the XPS 13. If anyone can help me with this choice or recommend me other laptops, I would be grateful.

Hi all- I am looking to get a new laptop for college and my budget is anything around $1000. I was looking for a windows machine as that is what my school mostly uses. I do not really need it for any type of gaming since I have a desktop but if it can that would be a plus. I was thinking something like the Razer Book or Blade since I like the big trackpad like the Apple MacBooks but if theres anything similar I would also consider it. I was also thinking the Framework Laptop Kit could be a possibility. What do you guys think? I am open to used laptops - the Razer Blade would most likely need to be used. Also for some reason I can't find the Razer Book at MSRP it seems like people are scalping the price on them for some reason. Input is greatly appreciated

Summary In a recent tweet, Framework Laptops stated that they have received a cease and desist from Lenovo's legal team over the design of their 3D printed motherboard chassis. The given reason is brand recognition issues due to similarities between the chassis' power button and the logo for Lenovo's "Legion" brand. In response to the order, Framework is changing the button and, as part of the process, will host a community competition to design the new button, with a Framework laptop motherboard as the grand prize. Quotes My thoughts I guess Lenovo had nothing better to do than go after a single part, not even manufactured by the company itself, used by a minuscule number of people in a completely different market. Does anybody have any experience gaming on the Framework with an eGPU? I'll be running it with a GTX 1080 Ti on EndeavourOS, and was looking at the Razer Core X, and was curious if anybody on Linux has had success with a similar setup. I could settle for a Windows dual boot for gaming if that's a limitation of Razer/Nvidia, though. Any input appreciated!

So I decided that I would get a Framework laptop for school but one issue, it’s not a dealbreaker but more of, when could this possibly happen? I’m ready to buy a Framework laptop but I know Intel 12th gen series is out and I’m not sure how long it could take the Framework team to have 12th gen main boards as an option or even Ryzen (Intel because of the product cycle, and Ryzen because they’re kicking ass in the laptop CPU department). All this may just be hoopla and may not happen but I was wondering to get opinions Thanks in Advance, JTH
