Hi i have a Lenovo U165 primarly used for net browsing, watching movies and youtube. Specs are: Amd Athlon II Neo K125 CPU, Mobility Radeon HD4200, upgraded ram to 4GB and a Intel 60GB SSD. I tried: windows 7 -slow windows10 -still slow and has a compatibility problem with gpu driver. Ubuntu - better but still not much faster, same problem with gpu driver.. i dont know much about linux and the driver instalation in ubuntu was a nightmare. Is there anything not outdated i could use on this netbook?..where all drivers will work. Only software i need is internet browser and hw accelerated movie player basically.

Hey there! A little while ago I upgraded from my old (Frankenstein's monster) PC to the more high end one I have now. Needless to say I don't know a whole ton about every aspect of this as of yet and am still learning. I mainly game and stream but since I got this PC I always felt like something was holding it back. At the beginning I did some digging and turned the power to performance mode from it's previous setting and that seemed to improve it a little bit, but it still feels off. I have mainly been playing Fortnite Save The World (BRs burnt me out real quickly, more of an MMO player) and when I start playing I get a pretty solid 100-144fps on medium/low settings but after a short amount of time it drops to sub 60 fps. It never seemed to be at a specific time or anything was overheating (I watch my temps on MSI) and after a quick re-launch of the game, the fps come right back. I'm not sure if it's just poor optimization on the games behalf or on my end. I have had this PC for pretty close to a year and make sure I check for dust every month or so, keep it clean and in an open space with proper air flow. (will include picture) When I play a game along the lines of Witcher 3 or Destiny 2 I can have it on Epic with a solid 100+ fps and no problems which leads me to believe the issue with fortnite is it's own optimization. I'm not sure if I just expect more from this PC than what is realistic but for the price I payed I was expecting more I suppose. When streaming any game the FPS can take a horrible hit and is somewhat expected with the extra stress on the CPU but my old PCs i7 3770 seemed to run some games even better than this one. All in all I keep my drivers updated (nearly every day, thanks nvidia) and if anyone had any suggestions as to a setting I can change to improve the performance. I feel like something is turned on a low setting or something is throttling. I can provide any extra info if needed. Thank you! Specs: CPU - Intel Core i7 7820x 8-Core 16-Thread + Dark Rock Pro 3 Extreme CPU Cooler Ram - 32GB DDR4 4x8GB Motherboard - ASUS X299 TUF MARK 2 GPU - EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB HYBRID Water Edition Memory - 256GB SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 Solid State Drive + 3TB Western Digital RED Hard Disk Drive Case - Phanteks P400s Tempered Glass Edition, Black Power Supply - EVGA SUPERNova 850w 80+ Gold Rated OS - Windows 10 64-bit Monitor - Dual ASUS Full HD 1080p 144Hz 1ms DP HDMI DVI Eye Care Gaming LED-Lit Monitor 27" The build was done for me at an small, out of town (but somewhat local shop) that only does gaming PCs.

I am looking for suggestions for a relatively cheap graphics card, I am new to custom builds and all my previous devices are laptops... I am not looking for a specific "team" to buy from... My price range is $150-200, I would like to eventually get into VR, but I am not too concerned for now about getting that ready... I am looking for something that would be more future proof and I AM willing to go a little bit out of my price range, its just a general area I would prefer to stick within... I am looking for recommendations as to what would be the best product for the least, especially in the crypto craze... Although an AMD GPU would work betting with the software I plan on installing (AMD adrenalin software) for overclocking and managing and visualizing, a Nvidia card would be just as good...

Hi! So, I've finally decided it's time to upgrade to a high end PC, getting rid of my old one. I'm wondering what people have to say about it, this was put together at the time I'm making this post, with some discounts at a local website provider which I've used before when building a mid-level gaming PC. 1. Budget & Location So, i live in Romania (Europe), so there are certain limitations to the parts we might have as well as price differences. I will list the price for each part at the time i made this. The parts i will order during the seasonal Christmas sales. These parts might change depending on discounts but will mostly provide more or less the same price/performance.. or well hopefully higher performance. Budget: (2.590 € / $ 3.055 / $CAD 3.927) Total pricing for the parts below: (2.488 € / $ 2.935 / $CAD 3.774) CPU : i7 8700k (388 € / $ 458 / $CAD 589) GPU : Gigabyte 1070 Ti Gaming OC (512 € / $ 604 / $CAD 777) Motherboard : Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 (230 € / $ 272 / $CAD 350) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Black 32 GB, 3200 MHz, CL16, 1.35v (Dual Channel config as i plan on getting 64gb total) (464 € / $ 547 / $CAD 700) PSU: Corsair RM750i (146 € / $ 172 / $CAD 221) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 (82 € / $ 97 / $CAD 128) Storage: - 2 x Seagate BarraCuda 2TB HDD 7200 RPM 64 MB (159 € / $ 188 / $CAD 242) - 1 x WD 240 GB m.2 2280 (85 € / $ 100 / $CAD 128) CASE: Segotep SG K8 (Already own) 2. Aim The main aim for this PC is gaming, however i work as a full time Graphic Designer, so i need something capable of rendering stuff at decent speeds whenever i feel like picking some projects while at home. Now, this is my first actual high end PC i build, and i wanted something that can perform decently overall. Firstly i was going for a 1080 Ti, however the 1070 Ti is more than overkill for the games i play, and it allowed me to grab more ram. 3. Monitors ASUS ROG Swift PG248Q (431 € / $ 509 / $CAD 654) 4. Peripherals Not necessary. 5. Why are you upgrading? Because while i was a PC enthusiast and loved following channels like LTT and Jayztwocents etc, which I've been following for 3-4 years now, i never got myself motivated enough to spend a lot of money in order to buy a high end future proof PC. However i felt that it's time to get something done. Currently i already own the case, and i didn't pick a higher capacity SSD because 240 gb is more than enough for me, i also own another 6 TB HDD, so that plus the 2x 2TB will be more than enough for me. NOTE: I need a monitor with at least 144 Hz, and currently this one provides G-Sync, 180Hz, Flicker-free and Blue Light reduction, all for a decent price. Also, i choose the Noctua Cooler because i won't be running any crazy overclock on the 8700k, i will go for a mild overclock, which the NH D15 can handle without a problem. Looking forward for your suggestions. Thanks!

Hello people, I'm about to rent a office and do several projects for the next 2 years. Therefor I need a reliable gear-system for heavy and process-hungry workloads. Budget: 10.000 € (only for the Tower) + 10.000 € (Monitor and Peripherals) Location: Germany Aim: Heavy!!! 3D Projects "Pixar"-like Heavy!!! 2D Projects Web Design with enormous amounts of elements in high resolution Ultra-High-Resoltion Posters for big companies Photoediting Video editing on 4K at least with VFX from After Effects Monitor: 38" 4K Ultra-Wide Screen (up to 8k) vertical 4K Monitor (for research and others) Peripherals: Windows 10 Keyboard Mouse 3D-Mouse Sound System Webcam Multi-functional Printer USB 3.0-Hub Wireless-Card NAS-System with 8TB Server with One-Clowd Sitting-standing desk with wooden desk with 4 memorybuttons and Cable management and PC Holder Ergonomic Chair for up to 12 hours of sitting Note: Red is highest priority Should be a dead-quite system! Gaming is not a neccacity, but i guess I will play casualy The Witcher 3 on it. RPG in general. As a designer I expect a beautiful case! Would be nice, if you could suggest someone to build all the tower parts togheter.

Budget: 2500$ USD Aim: I will be using the PC for gaming and editing/rendering Monitors: I will be getting a BenQ 144Hz 1080p monitor a week after I get the parts for the PC. Then in the future I am planning on getting a 60Hz 1080p monitor so I get a dual monitor setup. Peripherals: I already have everything that I will be using from my current build. Except for the monitor that I will be upgrading one week after I build the PC. Why am I upgrading? I got my computer from my brother when he upgraded his setup with a new PC. The computer was already a few years old, so it sucks at this point. Are the parts that I chose good? I know it is overkill for a 1080p gaming rig, however I will be editing/rendering with that PC as well. I am happy with 1080p gaming at the moment, and might upgrade to 1440p in the future if I feel like it's worth it. Prices are a bit expensive for you folks in NA, but I live in the middle east and that's how we got it here. What do you think of the parts that I am planning on buying? Any recommendations?

Thanks for visiting this post I picked out all my parts, but I am scared to pull the trigger until I figure a few things. Here is my part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Potna/saved/ My budget is 1300 with a little bit of overflow. 1. Is my cheap motherboard going to affect the performance and lifespan of my computer? a) If so, should I get an Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer or the MSI Z97 Gaming 5. If you can please find me a 100-120 dollar monitor than I am willing to get a better motherboard even if the benefit is a piece of gum. b) Is it worth to SLI the STRIX GTX 970 with 3.5 of VRAM? If so, can my cheap motherboard take it. 2. Is the power supply that I choose a good quality and going to last me a long time. If my it is worth SLI'ing my GTX 970 STRIX in the future. If so can you please suggest me a more powerful power supply. 3. By keeping my CPU colder, will my aftermarket cooler going to make my machine last longer 4. I know I said this already but will this computer last me a long time. 5. If I go with the Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer will the preinstalled 8.1 be a problem when I put windows 10 in.

So this is more of a stranger kind of post than you will see on here. I'm throwing together a desktop for my sister as she so desperately needs a decent computer. I got everything together except the GPU, what kind of new low end cards are there? I was looking at the 950, and 750 but they are a bit overkill since she rarely games, but I would like to have her have the potential to do so. Any decent cards out there under $100? If there's nothing good I'll just get the 750 or 950 whatever is cheaper.

Hey guys, just a little curious about how this works, I've been gaming on PC for a long time and have built several PC's of my own. This seems to always occur, and I've dealt with it for a long time and it still isn't a huge disturbance for me, I just want to know the cause So with many games I get over 60fps since I own a GTX 980, and for all games the fps stutters whenever i get over 60 frames. I know VSync caps the frame rate and messes with fps so I usually turn it off, but when I see stuttering I try it out and it's a lot smoother but at times it dips below 60 frames... Can someone explain to me what's happening and if there is any reasonable solution or is this just something I have to deal with? I have a 60Hz monitor btw!

Hello, I noticed that I have a file titled "end" on both my drives. Both were made at the same time, 1-16-15. I don't believe that I did anything that would cause me to gain these files (such as installing programs). I have not downloaded any program that would be suspected. I have an active antivirus (Norton 360). I have blocked all 3rd party cookies in my google chrome, so that couldn't be the problem. I do not know if this is something to be concerned about or if it is normal. Does anyone happen to know? Also to repeat it is titled "end" and the file type is "File" and is 1kb.

So here is the build plan I have put together and will be making. In terms of my usage it will be for daily general use, occasional gaming and I love the Adobe suite so will be using that but mainly photoshop. I will also be doing a lot of coding with my uni course. I know that it may be quite overkill for what I need but I like that. It is my first build and I want it to be great and powerful. A lot of time, effort and pride will go into this. I have even changed some parts down to lesser versions e.g. RAM was 32gb not 16 (will likely add 16gb more at a later point though), SSD was 1 TB, HDD was 3TB, got rid of sound card as well as the wifi card (one comes with mobo). The monitor just serves mainly as a place holder (not that a place holder is needed) which I will likely change because I want a good 4k IPS for my photos and occasional games, will also possibly be an ultra wide as they look stunning. I will also want two or three monitors in the end. I am thinking I will water cool it and I will be custom sleeving all my cables. I already have the case which looks pretty damn good. I will be buying the parts over several months so I am able to have/save the funds. I am not bothered that it is expensive, I would rather save and pay more for exactly what I want. After all this will be my pride and joy. Another justification of the better parts is that throughout its life I will be improving and upgrading it so I want it to be able to take whatever I throw at it. E.g. If at some point I add stuff that send the wattage up, no issue with the PSU. Hello everyone. I am planning my first build and have already decided on parts. It is going to be high end designed for performance. I will be using it for content creation e.g. Photo/video editing etc., gaming and general use. Is there any advice that I should take on board before building it regarding building or other parts of the process? Using an online calculator tool it estimated that it would use 850-900 watts (just with parts in the plan; I will be upgrading and adding other parts over its life) so is the a minimum amount of fans and radiators I will need full custom water cooling or AIO water cooling (minimum for both)? Any other useful bits of info welcome. I am aware there may be bits I should have Sid here but unsure so please ask if needed.

*Quoted From The Verge* Share on Facebook (16) Tweet (1) Share Share Pin In July, researchers Karsten Nohl and Jakob Lell announced that they'd found a critical security flaw they called BadUSB, allowing attackers to smuggle malware on the devices effectively undetected. Even worse, there didn't seem to be a clear fix for the attack. Anyone who plugged in a USB stick was opening themselves up to the attack, and because the bad code was residing in USB firmware, it was hard to protect against it without completely redesigning the system. The only good news was that Nohl and Lell didn't publish the code, so the industry had some time to prepare for a world without USB. "YOU HAVE TO PROVE TO THE WORLD THAT IT'S PRACTICAL." As of this week, that's no longer true. In a joint talk at DerbyCon, Adam Caudill and Brandon Wilson announced they had successfully reverse-engineered BadUSB, and they didn't share Nohl and Lell's concerns about publishing the code. The pair has published the code on GitHub, and demonstrated various uses for it, including an attack that takes over a user's keyboard input and turns control over to the attacker. According to Caudill, the motive for the release was to put pressure on manufacturers. "If the only people who can do this are those with significant budgets, the manufacturers will never do anything about it," he told Wired's Andy Greenberg. "You have to prove to the world that it’s practical, that anyone can do it." Still, the net effect is unlikely to be a push for USB security. As long as attackers can reprogram USB firmware, attacks like this will be a serious threat. The only way to fix the vulnerability is a new layer of security around firmware, but that would mean a full update to the USB standard itself, which mean years of insecurity. However the industry responds, we're likely to be living with it for a long, long time. In the meantime, any time you plug a USB drive into your computer, you'll be opening up a huge vector of attack. It's easy to imagine a pile of dirty USBs being dumped onto a table at CES or desk at your local Kinko's. Unless you can track a device's provenance from the factory to your computer, the only real protection avoiding USB drives and devices at every turn — covering over your USB ports the same way you might cover your laptop camera. It's an extreme response, but not an unreasonable one. And for large portions of the peripheral hardware industry, it could be a very scary thought. *Quoted From the verge* I personally think this is the time we need to make something more secure and faster and reliable than USB, I also believe sadly this will never get much attention from the majority of the public. I think this was going to happen anyways. I don't really have anything much else to say. But I hope you enjoyed the post Source - TheVerge For dark theme users: Here is the link to the article. http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/2/6896095/this-published-hack-could-be-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-usb

I've picked all the policies and all my tenets. Shift + Enter doesn't force end the turn. I'm at war with 3 out of the 11 AI Civs on difficulty setting 8. (and thus I cannot just reset my tenets) I do have policy and promotion saving on, but it doesn't seem to work in the case of a "free policy". Does anybody know of a solution to this, I've been goggling now for two days without finding anything useful.

As the title implies. How extensive are your programming skills? Talk about -How it start for you, where do you learn? -What level would you claim you're at? [beginner, Depth Understanding, Complete Understanding] -Languages you are familiar with. - The kind of programs you are able to create on your own. "hello world"? - what have you created so from? I'll go first, My interest in programming came from basic website language. At 13 I was making websites from mobile use only and the whole idea of programming a software just felt like the right thing. I started watching tutorial on programming languages. I mainly focused on of C++ because it looked cool (all of which I dont remember now). Thats because I didn't know what its purpose was. Im still at the beginner level, im currently doing C in school. And Im starting to feel that motivation I once had to program. I haven't created anything other than basic homework and couple programs I knock together for fun, just to see what it would do. What about you? In this post Im really looking for guidance, anyone who is willing to help me. Im a fast learner and school is coming to an end after exams in June, I'll be done. Happy coding.
